I must say they gave a lot of time for each lot in that sale, in a normal BCA or Mannheim type auction they would have been in and out in half the time......or less.

I wasted much of the day 'at the auction'. Some interesting stuff there. That rusty Lambretta covered in leaves was similar to the one my wife had soon after we got married. She came off it and wouldn't ride it again. I had a 1951 Vespa in '55.

I think I prefer the new arrangements for the auctions, and I like the Mathewsons people, and how they "do" the auction. 100% on line would be most efficient. The village hall where they have traditionally held their auctions is usually bursting at the seams, as is the entire villlage on auction day. They seem to have a modern industrial unit at Pickering now and have moved up a gear, and there was certainly a long lot list to plough through today.

When the buyer gets round to restoring that Peter I wonder if there will be a single bit left to keep! Plenty tales as ever of thousands upon thousands being spent on restorations, and the fruits of the restorers countless hours of work, being sold for at a fraction of the cost.

Agree, don't think you could make a living out of it. It's a rich mans hobby.

You definitely can't make a living out of it Peter but you can enjoy a fun hobby with very little cost if you buy correctly, do the work yourself and that is the enjoyment, then sell the result to cover your expenditure. Over the last 20 years I've turned 6 vehicles around on that basis, made a couple of small losses less than £300 on each had two break even within £50 and made a significant profit on one, the Stag I did, but thoroughly enjoyed every one and learnt a hell of a lot! :-D

I had to make a profit out of my cars years ago Mick or I couldn't afford the next one. I bought a PC Cresta with a burnt out clutch in in Bromley for 25 pounds, towed it all the way down here, fitted a Perkins diesel ran it for 5 years and sold it for 50 pounds. That's what you call hand to mouth motoring. 8-)

I remember those days well Peter, my first dabble in the car world was buying my mate Bob's Father's Austin 1100 which a motorcycle had crashed into his driver's door when he opened it. I paid him £13 10s for it when I was earning £6 15s a week as a GPO apprentice. A trip to the breakers yielded a door for 8s 6d and I fitted it, painted it, then failed my test so sold it for £17 and bought a mini for £12 and 6 driving lessons. I used the mini for 6 months as a learner and then bought my first motorcycle which I stayed with until I bought a Mk6 Reliant to drive on my bike license!! Good days and caught the petrol head bug taboot!! :-D

A Vespa 125cc from a cousin for £10, which gave way to a 250cc Norton Jubilee for £25 a year later. Then inherited the family 1935 Rover Ten (and passed car driving test on a Moggy 1000). Brief dabble with a '56 S1 Minx (oh dear), before paying £45 for a 1960 Rover P5 while at college in 1969. From then on it was Rover and Citroen, good few of both.

I think I paid 60 pounds for my Vespa, over a year or two. First car was a 1939 Ford Prefect, never went back to two wheels again, next car 1950 Hillman Minx, A70, Vauxhall Velox and about 60 others.

I like the look of these things. Interior of this one with probably too much patina. Like the image, would be nice to get a few staged images of FCF members vehicles having fun with a bit of location photography for POTD :-D
