206cc fuse 17(wiper) blowing

Post by grabrail »

hi

I have a 2002 206cc and all of a sudden my wipers stopped working. Had a mobile mechanic come out and looked, he said the wiper motor is blowing the fuse.

I got a new motor and linkage, and replaced them, but the fuse still blows. Subsequently discover the fuse blows when you turn the ignition on even with the wiper motor unplugged.

Obviously, I think, there is a short somewhere.

Can anybody give any tips of obvious places, or methodical steps for checking / looking for the short please.

Almost - a 'V' instead of a 'U', which I've corrected for you. Leave it with me for a second....

Ok, so the wiper motor has 4 pins

Pin 1 is the Earth
Pin 2 (503) To the BSI - Engine fixed stop command
Pin 3 (500) To the Engine Fuse Box - Low speed motor command
Pin 4 (501) To the Engine Fuse Box - High speed motor command.

So I suspect it is your engine fuse box that is playing up as it is this that controls the power to and from the motor and the internal relays are non-user serviceable to be realistic.

Here's the harness concerned from the wiper motor to the engine fuse box (click image to magnify). 5015 is the wiper motor, 10 PR is the harness.

Thanks for this, sorry for the delay in responding, had to go out last night.

Ive traced as much as I physically can and can see no bare wires or shorts anywhere, checked various earths for tightness, and battery terminals, and I can find no issues.

Fuse 17 still keeps blowing as you turn the ignition on, whether the wiper motor is plugged in or not. Looks like I'm going to need to get someone to have a look.

There's a good chance it's your engine fusebox then.

Just the Windscreen wiper motor (30A) - doesn't show any other equipment.

Does the fuse still blow if you unplug the 16 way green connector on the under bonnet fusebox?

Ok so progress. Changed the fuse box and the fuse no longer blows and wipers work. So thank you for that suggestion

One thing now. Wipers reset to the up position and go down the Windows first. Do I just need to take wipers off and reposition?

Could it be the motor I replaced with is from a left hand drive car?

I would have thought if you had a motor/linkage assembly from a LHD car it would have been a totally different shape.
Sounds like the little arm on the motor is in the wrong position, you can normally undo the nut & re position them. If you still have the old one compare the position of the arm at rest.
