Peugeot 308 - RT6 Continuously Rebooting
Hi I am new to this forum. I have a 2012 Peugeot 308 Vin: VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
The car has a Magneti Marelli RT6 unit with the popup dash mounted display.
Unit Reference: 9806703977
CD number: 8639
SW Version. - unit: RNEG2.75.C.5
SW Version. - unit: 201212051200
SW Version. - unit: CD:8639
SW Version. - unit: BR:6.2.70.10:pr
SW Version. - unit: CD_FW:35
SW Version. - unit: FP:06.01.d1
The system comes on when I start the engine, "Check in Progress" information pops up on the display and after 3-4 minutes the system reboots.
This cycle of checking and rebooting continues for the full length of any journey.
My radio is working when the system is on between reboots but 1 minute after the reboot is complete all the buttons become unresponsive.
I sourced the 2.86 version software. When I place the CD in the slot the message "Checking data on Media Source" appears but nothing more than this happens.
The system will not stay on long enough between reboot cycles to carry out anything productions.
My maps are showing 9 satellites available with Longitudinal data but the road map window shows no road detail. Instead it just shows a green screen.

Re: Peugeot 308 - RT6 Continuously Rebooting
Hi
First off, do you have a Bluetooth telephone connected and paired? This can be a Bluetooth compatibility issue with some phones with the Bluetooth software / profile used by the Head Unit (RT6). It's not the only reason for reboots by any means, but when the Head Unit has a communication issue with a phone it reboots all the time. Smart Phones have their operating system updated far more frequently (that often includes updated bluetooth profiles) than the head unit software on the older Head Units. This is what can lead to reboots when the systems are not handshaking properly.
First of all, when the system is operating, I would delete (not just unpair) any paired bluetooth phone as quickly as you can. Deleting it will also remove the associated cache.
Remove the paring from your phone too. Allow the system to restart and see if that stops the rebooting.
If not, then you may have a faulty internal SD card. This can be replaced - but is not a guarantee of a fix.
Also, be aware that 2.86 is a major firmware release and will very likely reset the default configuration of your Head Unit back to factory defaults, so you may loose parking assistance and some features may not work. This may result in the dealer having to re-download the settings as per your VIN from the PSA servers to get it back to operational status and also apply the Bluetooth echo calibration fix.
Diagbox can't do this as it is a secure function and locked out, requiring a live connection with a PSA account.
Just wanted to give you the heads up.
If you have an internal rebooting issue and the bluetooth phone possibility is eliminated, then I would caution against a firmware update when it is in this state or you could leave it inoperable if it reboots during the firmware update process. But do try the bluetooth check first.

Re: Peugeot 308 - RT6 Continuously Rebooting
Hi MARC,
I have the bluetooth disconnected and selected "Forget this device" on my phone. Whenever I was on a call during a reboot I would loose all sound through the car speakers. Also after a reboot, the bluetooth would connect to the phone and move the call from the handset to the car radio. It was too frustrating.
Would any MicroSD card off amazon do the job? What MB/GB storage capacity is recommended? I have a new Sandisk 8Gb unopened, will this work?

Re: Peugeot 308 - RT6 Continuously Rebooting
Ok, so hang fire for a bit. Unpairing the phone is not going to do it if you read my post. You need to actually remove the phone from the RT6 by going into the settings and removing the phone completely from there in order to remove the phone cache and all data associated with it.
So you need to delete the phone from the RT6, not just unpair it from the phone's bluetooth settings.
Loosing sound from the car speakers during a reboot is normal - as the RT6 that handles the communication with the phone and cannot pass the audio to the car's speakers when it is rebooting.
As for you other point, that is also normal behaviour for a paired phone to hand over the call to the car when in range as that is the whole point.
Try my suggestion first before replacing the card.
As for instructions and card info see the relevant post here:

Hi Marc,
Forgetting Bluetooth devices doesn't seem to have made any difference, the radio is still behaving as it was before.
I have ordered a MicroSD card per the specifications in your instructions. I will fit this and see if it makes a difference.

Re: Peugeot 308 - RT6 Continuously Rebooting
Hi Marc,
I have replaced the MicroSD, installed software 2.86 and installed the latest version of the UK/Ireland map. All is working well except for the fact that the language settings for all menus are in Hungarian or Czech.
Would you have details of how to navigate to the menu to select English?
Thanks for the tip on the MicroSD, that appears to have been the source of the issues.
Regards
Paul

Ok, if this is Czech then see the images below. These have the Menu options in English and the Czech equivalent. You need to hit the SETUP button and navigate to the correct location shown in Section 11 on the last page. I've included them all for reference, but they are in page order. Click the image to zoom them up, sorry they aren't very clear - it's the export to JPEG from PDF.
If it wasn't Czech, send me a screenshot of the initial screen when you hit the SETUP button in case it's in Mandarin or something else

Google translate agrees that it's Czech.

Re: Peugeot 308 - RT6 Continuously Rebooting
@pobbrennan_2012-308: Hi Paul - the language option from the menu is missing in this case and I suspect this is because it has retained the settings from the original RT6 unit from the country the VIN was coded in. This is one of the issues with a different unit.
The only way to get the language options back onto the configuration menu is to ask the dealer to configure the RT6 for you. This requires a software configuration from the dealer using their servers / Diagbox to change the customer language. Once they have done this and set it to English, this should allow the language menu to be activated on the RT6 itself. That's why it is currently missing.

Be warned that a firmware update may not solve your issues if the internal MicroSD card is starting to fail. In fact it could make the system worse.
