As James found out, the trandem was referred to as 'Buttercup' in one scene of (I think) their take on the Jack and the Beanstalk story :-D
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

This picture caught my eye

Image

1. It has a Citroen HY Van in it
2. The Quiet Woman was visited as part of our Virtual Pennine Cycleway Ride in May Earlier this year.

Now the chain of connection went from my POTD today, to a classic bicycle which was in the classic car I photographed, to Citro Jim who posted about the eroica britannia in response.....to the gallery of event.

..and the classic Bicycle in the classic car was one of these

Image

and this little account maps out the history of W. F. Holdsworth: Company History contributed to Roy Thame, who came to own 2/3rds of W.F.Holdsworth Ltd retail shops, and subsequntly started producing frames and cycles under the Roy Thame Marque.
In March 1953 Roy Thame (1921-2006) became manager of W.F. Holdsworth's shop in Putney (a 53 year!! association in Mar 2006).
"After service in the Royal Navy, I worked for Les Hitchcock in his cycle shop in Hemel Hempstead and it was here that I met Ron Dodson, who although manager of W.F. Holdsworth Putney shop, still did some travelling for the Holdsworthy Company. Early in 1953 Ron told me he was emigrating to New Zealand and suggested that I apply for the managers job at Putney..... I was an active member of the Hemel Hempstead Cycling Club, being club time-trial champion in 1952, but on moving to Putney joined as a first claim member of the Fulham Wheelers"
(Roy Thame).
Nice detailed history and a few old shop photos...

One of the things mentioned in that "History of Holdsworth" link was the "Aids to happy cycling" Brochure.

I like the title, and I like an old brochure on most subjects.

Anyway the internet has a copy of the 1949 version...anyone curious enough to find out what the aids to happy cycling were in 1949.....

and for Cream fans....the website is called disraeligears!

We cyclists do very much use cream... Chamois Cream :)

It's essential to keep our nether regions in first-class condition :)

This is my personal choice...
Muc Off CC
Muc Off CC
It's reassuringly expensive and I get through a lot of it... I also use it when running...

Is that Quiet Woman pub a politically correct version of the Nag's Head?
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

Well I enjoyed it.....Cycle Touring Club's outing from Willesden and Watford to Rugby 1955!

the language of the commentary and the jolly music alone, are worth the admission money!
eg
HH England Editor of "Cycling" knows "that a cycle tour without a map is like new potatoes without the smell of mint"
"A new place sets you simmering as your home town never could.
It may be only 75 miles from home but a different accent
can freshen the accustomed sound of speech like dew on grass
and remind you that every place like every person has its own unique history and character."
