Correction. No it was the Pullman that had the glass division. The incident concerning the Imperial was that my wife was looking at it and ran her fingers along the gutters and the paint was all rough, she mentioned it to her boss and they set it back to Rootes to be remedied. They were only at Maidstone, about 20 miles away. It was my wife that pointed this out.

I like a random connection! Going back to the roots of the chain it was all to do with nighttime lights pictures on POTD, and on a slow POTD day that I dug out that Sunbeam Talbot 90, "caught in the headlights" from the archives.

In a similar random occurence it was nice yesterday to be reaquainted with the Quiet Woman again on "On your Bike" :-D

PS just catching up on Bangers and Cash Series 3 Episode 4 shown yesterday....interesting Aston Martin feature first up.

We had a customer with a Sunbeam Talbot 90, I went out for a test run with him driving one day, he only used second and fourth gears, column change, he just flipped it over back and forth. :)

He got it smashed up while it was still in warranty, Rootes said they would send a specialist chassis team from the factory to straighten the buckled chassis.

I stripped off the wing and suspension parts, when they arrived I was surprised that the only tools they had were an oxy acetylene blow torch a couple of hammers and a measuring gadget, a sort of plywood pattern, they heated it to cherry red and bashed away with the lump hammer until it matched the pattern, about forty five minutes work then disappeared off back to Coventry.

I watched that episode Neil, astonishing what some people will pay for what I'd consider just old s**t.

I missed the Aston sale, what did it fetch? The specialist guy suggested it might be worth 100 grand as is.

My ears pricked up when Derek visited County Durham to visit an Aston Martin Restoration Specialist.

HQ not far from Beamish Museum. Well noticed in the backgound a sort of orangey thing with a light coloured roof briefly amongst the cars....and it was....

Not really related but Gibbo's Sunbeam tale reminded me of an incident at Harrow Technical College when I was studying for my ONC in Engineering. We were in an Electrical Engineering session with a Mr Carter, who was a very serious bespectacled engineer approaching his retirement, giving the lecture. The fluorescent tube above him for lighting the chalkboard was flashing continuously, obviously a faulty starter. As the lecture went on he kept standing on a chair every few minutes and stroking his hand along the tube in unsuccessful attempts to get it to fire up. Suddenly the door opened and Mr Shortman, a much younger, shorter and portlier man who was our mechanical engineering lecturer, strode into the room with a chalkboard T square in his hands. Mr Carter, somewhat startled by the interruption, looked up and greeted his fellow staff member asking what he needed. Mr Shortman grinned, said nothing and walked up to the flashing tube. He promptly dealt it a resounding blow on the end with his T square and the tube burst into life!!! As he walked back to the door he turned to face us students and said "There you are, every electrical problem has a mechanical solution :-D " Even Mr Carter smiled and I have never forgotten that lesson!! :-D

The winning bidder in the hall the hammer came down at £120,000, subsequently went to the telephone bidder who upped his bid to match that price.

Sometimes people in this world astound me - I have never subscribed to snobbishness and I accept that there are many people who do which is the basis of business for many "designer" businesses, but here is an example of the sort of thing which I just don't understand. In the middle of a pandemic with charities crying out for help for people who are in danger in various ways and all the usual needs for the homeless and disadvantaged, how can anyone live with themselves when they have just paid out £70,500.00 for:
