Another C5 Cam belt replacement post

Post by EJAP »

Hi Citroen hive minds.

I know this has been talked about more times than all our hot dinners but I'm after some specifics about a forthcoming DIY cam belt change on my C5.

I have done so much research online and I have reasonable mechanical skills and so feel up to the job.

It's a 2008 C5 2.0 diesel and the questions I have are....

1. Do I really have to remove the engine mount?
2. What are the alternatives from a DIY perspective for the cam lock and flywheel lock?
3. What if the flywheel pully is a sod to remove and I don't have a flywheel lock and I'm using manual tools. (No pneumatic) Any tips?
4. Err...
5. Anything else?

Tips, advice all received with grateful thanks.

BTW. I ordered a branded (Bosch) cam belt kit and water pump from buycarparts.co.uk. In Germany but so well priced and amazing service.

Thanks amigos...

While I cannot offer any practical car advise, I would say make sure you have plenty of tea supplies!

Thanks Marc. I've seen this from previous posts but wasn't sure which was the correct one for my engine. Very useful.

I can't see why one has to remove all the gubbins under the sump? No doubt I'll find out.

Any clue as to best place to buy the locking mechanisms.

Cheers

Joe

I'll confess I leave this type of job to my mechanic to do, but I would suggest you get a genuine Citroen timing kit. I bought mine from Citroen for about £158 inc. VAT - and that boxed kit included the Gates belt, all the tensioning rollers and the water pump with gasket and get the lot done at the same time. Eliminated the few squeaks I had.

Hi Marc. Just a quick question (again) Do any of the workshop manuals indicate how much coolant is lost when replacing water pump? Will I need to bleed the coolant system?
Thanks

Most of your coolant will be lost & yes you will need to bleed the system.
