Xantia 2.0l Hdi Aux belt

Post by stevestix8 »

Hi All,

Does anyone know whether the aux belt can be changed in my S reg Xantia without having to change the Cam belt and water pump etc?

Got Cam belts all done (incl aux belt and water pump) around 8 yrs ago (120,000 miles) and I have only put about 50k on the clock since then but have been told today the Aux belt needs changing. Apparantly it is 100k or every 8-10 years they need changing?

Any suggestions?

The aux belt can be changed easily, without disturbing the timing belt. Keep in mind that your timing belt is only a couple of years away from being due again.

Hi All,

Thanks for response, I agree the aux belt (Serpentine belt / Poly V belt?) is much more common to fail.

Is also made to be fairly easy to change. Those youtube vids on 'how to change aux belt' help lol.

Am thinking of just ordering a new aux belt, changing that and maybe dealing with the timing belt again in a couple of years.

Does anyone know the best brand of belt? There are many. It needs to be 'with A/C', 6 ribs?, 1750mm length?

I can get a Ridex set for £65, including 1 belt and 2 pulleys. Is Ridex a good make?

https://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/ridex-13630428.html

Others makes are SKF set for £81, or Gates for £79, Contitech for £80.

Any advice appreciated.

I would be wary of any company taking my money that has no phone number on their page. The company might be ok but a German fax number isn't very appealing to me. Mister Auto uk is owned by PSA they are reasonable enough with their prices.

Hi All,

Thanks for response.

Have been researching the best belts and many seem to recommend the Gates belt kit.

I have found the exact Gates kit (K026PK1750) on ebay and the price was better than the Ridex kit.

Got better quality parts for cheaper than cheap parts lol, check link.

Any advice on the process of changing the aux belt?

Cheers,

Steve

Changing the belt is relatively easy.

Lock adjustable tensioner through the hole into the engine I'm sure it's a 15mm, very long spanner required. Remove belt if locked properly it should slide off easily.

Release adustable tensioner using spanner. Remove and replace both rolling bearing and adjustable tensioner. Relock tensioner and place on belt, release tensioner and that should be it.

As Kenny said. The only small thing to add is that you need some 4mm rod to make a locking pin for the spring-loaded tensioner.

There are a couple of good pictures here: https://www.astuces-pratiques.fr/auto-m ... tia-2-0hdi

It's in French, but once you realise "pige de réglage" means locking pin, the rest is reasonably obvious.

Hi All,

Thanks for responses.

The kit arrived and all looks brand new, is the top quality EPDM rubber belt (Gates) and 2 sets of pulleys, for manual and automatic tensioner pulleys. Only needed the 1 pulley.

The old tensioner released ok the old belt came off fairly easy, looks deteriorated (slightly threaded) and with chunks of the ribs missing. I wire brushed all the pulleys and got all the broken ribs out of the gulleys.

Is a complicated 6 pulley system and the belt returns at strange angle to the new tensioner pulley. Was a very tight fit even on the lowest tension, but eventually it lined up nicely and adjusted well. The belt doesnt go vertical when twisted by hand.

Hooked the battery up again and started the engine and the belt looks good and is working well.

Thanks again.
