lexia / diagbox questions

Post by Stu-Scotland »

Having done one of 3 atf fluid changes it's probably time to buy lexia / diagbox as I want to look at spheres and a rear damper too at some point.
I've been looking at the Easydiagnostics website and assume that I need the Lexia3 diagnostic kit as opposed to Citroen Peugeot Lexia, PP2000, Diagbox version 9.68.

Is the latter just an updated version of the software without the hardware? I assume I won't need this for a 2010 C5 X7.
Can someone confirm that the full kit will allow suspension depressurization, gearbox reset and anything else I'm likely to need?

Thanks.

Stu
I assume you have reset the gearbox oil counter after you changed the fluid? This is essential and most be done each time the oil is replaced...

As for your other questions:

The diagnostic kit is often referred to incorrectly as a 'Lexia kit', but most of us here understand what that means.

The diagnostic kit consists of the hardware and the software parts. The hardware is a VCI (Vehicle Communications Interface) that connects to the OBD II port on your car via a cable and then from the VCI via USB to a laptop with the Diagbox software installed onto it.

1) Diagbox is the latest software, used for later post 2007 / 2008 vehicles depending on model.
2) Diagbox also contains the Lexia 3 and Peugeot Planet 2000 software which is encapsulated within Diagbox and launched automatically depending on the vehicle being diagnosed / model / age of vehicle. You don't need to concern yourself with this - it is automatic.
3) Years ago, prior to Diagbox, there were stand alone versions of Lexia and Planet - but these are not longer supported or updated.
4) The Diagbox versions are continually released to support the latest cars. V7 is more than adequate for your C5 X7, with V7.62 covering vehicles up to January 2015, so don't need V9 for a 2010 X7.

Diagbox will do all that you need as it is basically a clone of the dealer level tool.

If you are considering purchasing from Easy Diagnostics (we are not affiliated), then there is a 15% discount for members - all the details in this post:

Thanks for the replies Marc.

No, I haven't reset the gearbox yet. It's only had one of 3 changes so it's still more old fluid than new. That's one of the reasons I'm getting diagbox.
I'll want it anyway as the suspension behaviour is a bit suspect (I'll start a separate thread about that when I begin to get into it) so that'll be on the cards over the next few months.

I'll pm you about the discount.

Marc, this post of yours explaining what each term is, ought to be pinned to the top of the forum. Thank you.

Among the questions newbies usually have, there’s only two pieces of information missing from it:

- Are later Diagbox versions compatible with older vehicles? I seem to have read that, say, version 7.xx would be the last one able to connect to, say, 2012 cars. I may have misunderstand that completely. The reverse, of course, will be true - later vehicles may require a later version.

- There are many references to running Diagbox from a virtual machine, even getting a virtual machine image with Diagbox already installed from the seller. Is that so? Is the VM able to access the VSI via USB?

Thank you!

Easy diagnostics is one of the better places to purchase the hardware but they do sell out rather quick when they restock.
Assuming the software might be an ebay purchase with the scarey01 passwords then.....

If your computer runs 32bit operating system with win7 you won't need a vm , Once the installation process is complete the updates need to be done off line . You reboot the laptop after each update then the laptop will install each update after reboot and running lexia if it asks after to look for latest updates dont , close the option then your good to go.

No worries.

The Later the version of Diagbox, the later the support date, but V7.72 was released on 01/06/2015, so will support vehicles released up to that date. Later vehicles 2016 onwards will require Diagbox V9.**.
There are many references to running Diagbox from a virtual machine, even getting a virtual machine image with Diagbox already installed from the seller. Is that so? Is the VM able to access the VSI via USB?
Some sellers offer a VM version (certainly of DB V9.**) due to the later activation / licence issues.

A VM version does require a VMWare capable laptop with the correct version of VMWare though and plenty of memory configuration. Most people I know have a dedicated laptop for diagnostics as Diabox is a pretty messy affair to be honest. It creates folders everywhere and if it ever deactivates and you have not backed up your licence file it si a complete clean up of all the directories, programme files and registry before another installation can be performed otherwise it will fail. That's one other reason why some people have a VM installation. I've never had any issues with it though :-D

Thank you!

Thank you, I thought of 2 other questions:

- It's mentioned that versions above 7.57 or 7.58 don't support offline telecoding. If that's the case, then what's the use of a 9.xx version for us laymen? Can they still do offline telecoding in older cars, is that it?

- Does anyone known of a seller like EasyDiagnostics but for continental Europe? I couldn't find any information on shipping and / or customs on the EasyDiagnostics site.

I think you are getting confused between Diagnostics and telecoding/ configuring.

All versions can diagnose the vehicles, old and new, provide faults, read, and clear faults and undertake maintenance operations, like put electronic parking brakes into service mode, show live data, reset additive counter, replace spare parts (that do not require coding). This is generally what most people use it for.

Telecoding is something else which involves changing the configuration of the ECUs, like changing optional equipment, configuring ECU parameters. Many if not most of these operations can't be done with DB V9.** in offline mode, and require a PSA log-in to undertake which is chargeable.

The reason why some people NEED to use Diagbox V9.** is because the later vehicles marketed from about 2016 use later technology and different electronic architectures which require the use of DB V9.**. They stopped updating Diagbox Version 7, so this version will either no longer support newer models and will not support later technology added to some older models still in production in 2016 and on.

Version 7 of Diagbox up to 7.58 can telecode fine on vehicles up to 04/11/2014. Later versions 7.6* onward started restricting telecoding on some models (I can't tell you which). I used V7.62 fine on my C5 X7.

Easydiagnostics ship outside of UK. I suggest you call them or email them about shipping to ask this question as we are not affiliated with them.

Can ELM327 bluetooth OBD2 scanner be used (as good as, and instead of, Lexia 3 hardware) with Diagbox? What other OBD2 scanners can be used with Diagbox? What is the benefit of Lexia 3 hardware?

Can Lexia 3 hardware be used with other software than Diagbox, for example a mobile phone app like Torque?

That's no indication of the quality of the components and what hardware is on the boards or what is missing from the boards - price will be a rough guide though - anything under £100 may not be a full chip Revision C chip with full hardware. Without this, it will have trouble reading full CAN vehicles.

These are all clones, but they are not all the same - some are better quality and have the full hardware, others are a cut-down version and are generally cheaper.

For the age of your vehicles, you'll need Lexia. This is included with Diagbox and when it detects the vehicle, it should launch automatically - however.... You need to install Diabox on a 32 bit operating system because the encapsulated Lexia software will not run on a 64 bit operating system. So be aware of this.

Make sure you purchase from a UK supplier that provides support.

so I got that cable cheap.. sadly the software is 'incomplete or corrupt'

installed lexia3 from that software and I got all sorts of weird pop ups.. one of which said "Aaaaaaaargh!"
which was slightly unnerving..

(scary01)-has anyone successfully used theirs?
I think lancetech use those id's..

computer says both these diagbox and lexia are "corrupt or incomplete"..

so I've just tried another lot of software from ebay.. diagbox 7.01-7.57 it's half installed, seems to be working so far but I can't get the key they suggested to work..

has anyone got working software?

or a key/id's for diagbox 7.01-7.57?

There are no keys or IDs for Diagbox. You just need to follow the instructions exactly. If you have a failed installation, then no matter how many times you attempt to re-install it will not work.

It requires a full uninstallation and cleanup of the registry and the hard disk to remove all previous traces before you can attempt a reinstallation. Failure to do this will result in the same error messages and it will never activate.

Same happen to me, i had to wipe the drive reinstall windows then in stall Diagbox then all the updates, oh the up dates , reboot close the programe o0en the program install the update close the program open the program .... & so on and on
Better to get Autel 808spro , ive done everything on that program keys , fap bags , dpf abs and so on. My opinion is its way less complicated than trying to install a copied version of pp2000 owned by thousands whom have had the same issues at some point. Thats my opinion not intended to upset anyone , or any pro nouns too.
