Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
No to my knowledge, as you have to get inside the actual bumper along the left side length - to get to the clips and to the harness (and when replacing them, or the harness will dangle about and strain the connections at both ends causing an early failure).

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
Ok, so here’s what I found with my camera (thank you iPhone 11 Pro wide angle lens).
There is one torx screw and 3 clips for the reverse camera to push out.
And the cable connector is not far at all, you can trace it with your hand and reach it to disconnect. No need to have the bumper off at all.
It may well be that this has been simplified on the DS Automobiles DS5 and the Citroen version has to have the rear bumper off. But as it stands for the DS DS5, there is no need to take the bumper off at all. The cable is not all wrapped up in tape, and has a simple connection to the loom.

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
Done it, took me a while, the screw is a pain to get out as there’s not much space, but it all can be done without taking the bumper off.
Here’s the annoying part: after swapping the cameras over, there was no difference.
Essentially the head unit is the fault.

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
Hi, I asked my dealer to replace the camera with a night cam but they told me that technically it couldn't be done. I haven't changed my rear number plate bulbs as I didn't think it would make much difference?
I've just learned to live with it and park where possible under lights in car park but it's not good!

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
The early DS5 cameras were replaced and upgraded due to issues with picture at night, but there's not much else you can do. As for your number plate bulbs, you need to be careful if considering replacing those with LEDs or a higher output filament bulbs because they can cause distraction to rear traffic at night being that they are always on.... I could leave you liable for any accident so caused.
However it might be worth looking at your reversing bulbs to if they can be improved - as they are only on when reversing and less likely to be a problem. But do check to make sure they are legal.

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
I bought my DS5 just over a month ago and the reverse camera quality is awful, I think it must be water damaged as you can't see a thing through it, I have a warranty claim limit of £250 (I think), is it under this amount to replace the camera under warranty?

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
Hi Kieran
Unfortunately not if using a Citroen Dealer. There was an upgraded camera available due to the original being poor as it was, but a new replacement camera alone is £218 including VAT, but that does not include the labour. The rear bumper generally has to come off and they’ll be replacement clips to replace too as the old ones have to be broken Ito get the old cable out from the main loom.
If you were able to do that part then maybe.

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
Hi, I have a DS7 and the reversing camera is great in the summer but now the winter is here and the roads are wet the camera is very poor. I have to clean it every time I get in the car but as soon as I drive the spray from the car sticks to the lens and I cant see the next time I go into reverse.
does anyone else have this problem and is there a fix for it.
Peter

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
Perhaps mudflaps on the rear wheel arches might help?

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
I've been reversing my cars for 50+ years in the dark, the rain , the snow and whatever the world presented me with and I just use my eyes and mirrors if necessary. Never hit anything, who needs a camera?
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
I will say that, sometimes, aids to reversing can be a lifesaver. Years ago my company car (a Skoda Octavia estate) had reversing sensors. One time I was reversing into a space when the sensors went off very quickly (they almost screamed!), and I hit the brakes instantly. A couple of moments later a small child came into view through a side window, followed very quickly by a horrified, relieved parent. If it was not for those sensors I would probably have hit that child.
My employer has a standard requirement that all the lease vans they use MUST have reversing sensors. As the vans do not have any glasswork in the storage space those sensors are really useful.

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
Yes I agree the sensors are a good aid but you still wouldn't rely solely on them, you use your eyes as well, also vans are different anyway with a very restricted rear view. I just think that relying on any potentially faulty system is not the way to go. Bring back the man with a red flag I say only get him to walk behind!!Hell Razor5543 wrote: ↑13 Jan 2021, 18:53 I will say that, sometimes, aids to reversing can be a lifesaver. Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
I do use my eyes and ears when reversing, but that small child was short enough that they were below the glass in the tailgate, and impossible to see (and they had come in from my blind side while I had my head turned to reverse in). It was only when they got further away from the car that I was able to see them. Once I had parked the car I went and had a strong cup of tea to calm my nerves. THAT was an experience I have no wish to repeat (or for anybody else to go through).
