C4 Picasso 1.6 auto vtr+ 2007 faults

Unread post by Flanders »

Hi all, I'm having a few issues with some faults that are coming up quite often now, had these come up last year and suddenly disappeared for 10 months, but now reappeared,

Handbrake faulty
Gearbox fault
Abs faulty

These come on quite randomly and car goes into limp mode, ie no higher than third gear,,if I stop and restart the car, and pull away the faults reae there but then dissappear when it goes to up shift,

Hopr someone has heard of these before..

Hi Colin,
OK I've added my vin to my car section on my profile, I'm not sure if it shows or not as I can see it but I can't see others 👍🏻,

Unfortunately I don't have a code reader, but I no I had a issue last week which resulted in having to be towed 💩, crankshaft sensor fault came up along with either front left or right abs, to be honest, I've googled the issues with abs and gearbox faults and found that my wiring loam from gearbox to engine and interior fuses, there has been many repairs and looks a right mess

Strangely whist being towed, all of a sudden my faults started to ping up, and when home, the car started fine

I suspect you have an ESP-related issue as this system also controls the Electronic Handbrake.

Ok, so I've cleaned up the thread and corrected your VIN (and updated your profile with it).

So you have a C4 PICASSO FAMILY SALOON 1.6 HDi 110 particle emission filter (DV6TED4) piloted manual gearbox 6 with electronic parking handbrake (EPB)

As I mentioned before, the ESP ECU controls the EPB, so if there is any fault detected in the speed control system or wheel sensors, the ESP system will deactivate all the advanced features like Hill Start Assist and anti-roll back and the ESP system / possible ABS features, leaving you with basic breaking functionality whils the fault is detected.

When you stop the car and switch off the engine, then restart it later, if the fault is no longer there, the features will be reactivated - until the fault occurs again at which point the features are deactivated again - and so the cycle repeats.

So you need to get the faults read and posted here to try and give us some indication of the problem.

It may be a wheel speed sensor, or a fault in one of the electrical connectors /cables, or a myriad of other possibilities - hence why you need to get the system read with somebody with a Lexia kit / Diagbox.

OK found as I already suspected speed sensor, I have purchased 1 to change and I believe the other is a glow plug

Ignore the 91351: Pre-heating relay circuit: Coherence - Relay supplied and glow plugs not supplied. This is a common one almost all HDis have from time to time.

Here's the descriptor of the main fault - so 3 possible areas - all inter-related, but a fault in the speed control system can cause issues with the other connected systems.

Fault code: U0415 Fault with the information sent by either the ABS/ESP ECU or the electric parking brake ECU: Value received incorrect.
  • The average front wheel speed information on the CAN is incorrect.
  • The time of appearance of the fault code is 1s
Context of appearance of the fault code: Ignition on

Context of Fault code appearing:
  • Supply voltage correct between 8V and 16V (Pin 3 of the 28-way connector)
  • No communication fault on the CAN
  • Absence of fault codes U1000 - U1003 - U1113
  • The system is not in starting phase
Conditions of disappearance of the fault Reception of 20 consecutive items of valid information.

Down-grade modes if fault present:
  • The gears above 3rd gear cannot be engaged
  • Change of gear impossible in the presence of additional faults (Input shaft speed, Engine speed, Gearbox input speed, Accelerator pedal position)
Symptoms: Difficult/impossible to change a gear, Lack of power.
Suspect areas: 8-way harness of the piloted manual gearbox ECU, ABS/ESP ECU, Electric parking brake

OK I'm lost with this part,

Speed sensor changed, and noticeable difference is,

Before change, the car would reset the faults, ie drive as normal in automatic, now faults don't clear when and I have to change gears on the paddle, and fool the it to drive over 4th gear

OK managed to get this sorted, turned out to be dirt ingress between hub and sensor, I cleaned this before, but just went through the basics after fitting a new speed sensor, it would not reset it self as before so it gave me a starting point, checked current from sense to repaired wiring loom and all good, woopie
