Everywhere I've found says 4.5litres.
Dropped the oil and changed the filter but it only took 4 litres to max it on the dipstick, never had this before on any other vehicle, it's usually the other way round and will take more than the recommended if anything.
Level ground all the old oil drained out. New oil is squeaky clean so it isn't like any of the old was left in.
Anybody else find they take less than the recommended amount. The thought crossed my mind it might have the wrong dipstick in it and it's low on oil but reading max on the stick. Electronic oil display is also saying max but I find these very unreliable anyway.
Berlingo 2.0HDI oil quantity.

Did you run the engine before checking the level?
A new (empty) oil filter will mop up maybe half a litre, and full oil galleries a bit more.
There have also been broken/damaged PSA dipstick grips/tops, but unsure about Berlingo.

The Berlingo is 4.5 Litres and as said - you'll still have oil in the system and filter. If the gearbox was brand new and unfilled it would be 4.5 litres, which is why you should always go by the dipstick measurement.
The difference between the MIN and MAX mark on these 2.0 HDi engines specifically is 1.4 LItres.

Yeah, I ran the engine, I know the filters hold a fair bit of oil.white exec wrote: 05 Sep 2020, 09:14 Did you run the engine before checking the level?

I'm wondering if it has the wrong dipstick in it.
It's got a blue pull handle on the stick but no idea if it's the correct one or not.

The 1.4itres min to max would mean even if it has the wrong stick in it at 4 litres there would still be enough oil in it which is a bit more reasuring.GiveMeABreak wrote: 05 Sep 2020, 09:29 The Berlingo is 4.5 Litres and as said - you'll still have oil in the system and filter. I don't trust those dash readouts for oil, I had a clio years ago that would show full when it was on the minimum on the stick, I always go off the stick, I'm just doubting whether it's even got the right stick in it.

Re: Berlingo 2.0HDI oil quantity.
A problem with dipsticks is that many seem not to have part/factory numbers marked on them, so it's difficult to check whether an engine has the correct one.
One check that can be done is if someone with a known correct/original one and the same engine, measures the relevant dimensions — i.e. top of dipstick holder/tube to both High and Low marks. This is what really matters.

Agreed, there are some numbers on this one but it doesn't look like a part number. It's a very important thing the oil level too, want to make sure it's right.white exec wrote: 05 Sep 2020, 10:09 A problem with dipsticks is that many seem not to have part/factory numbers marked on them, so it's difficult to check whether an engine has the correct one.

I think I'll see if the local dealership has got one in stock to compare. The stick isn't snug in the tube at the top either which got me suspicious.
Some pics of it below.

Re: Berlingo 2.0HDI oil quantity.
I've managed to get somebody with a 2.0HDI berlingo to very kindly measure their dipstick and top of the tube to the max mark is 505mm so it looks like mine is the correct stick, worry over.
