Remind what the day it's going to be - is it Wednesday? If so I should just be OK.mickthemaverick wrote: ↑02 Sep 2020, 11:43Paul, is the situation you forecast still the same? I hope to get and plot the Liverpool map today or tomorrow so if anything has changed and you can meet I need to know where?

Re: Mick's Motoring September Stroll
It is indeed Wednesday Paul, I have plotted a route down from Lytham via Formby and Bootle, then into the city to use the northern tunnel across to Wallasey then down the A551 through Heswall onto the A540 and down to Chester. You should get the idea from my overwrite in blue on the map below. I would think we will be in Liverpool by about 10.30 and will need to be off the map by 2ish. So if you can suggest a meeting place for a spot of lunch it would be terrific!!

I thought you wanted to walk around Liverpool a bit? Is that now not happening? I'd be happy to wander with you. Mind you, parking (without paying) is certainly difficult.
I can meet you almost anywhere, either side of the river, depending on what your plans are.
As you're driving along the A540 can I suggest the café in Waterworld? It's next door but one to, and not to be confused with, the larger Gordale Garden Centre which also has a more expensive and less friendly eatery. They have a reservation system for tables now which would guarantee a place. My wife and I used to have a regular meet-up with a friend prior to the Covid-19 situation and have managed one since it reopened.

By the way, there's a new road that bypasses Crosby and takes you directly to the big roundabout, and excessively complex routing, where the M57/M58 start. You can still go through Crosby but be aware you'll have to turn off the main road at the sharp dogleg right on the right of Crosby on your old map.

Re: Mick's Motoring September Stroll
We would have liked a stroll around with maybe lunch in the pub with the amazing architecture and really lavish loos, the name of which escapes me, but parking could well be the problem. Is there a multi storey in walking distance from that pub with a little sightseeing ? If not the cafe on the A540 sounds good to me. Have to leave it to you Paul I'm afraid, but meeting you and having a shandy is the most important thing for us!!

That's the Philharmonic pub. Paul McCartney did a surprise show there a couple of years back on James Corden's Carpool Karaoke.mickthemaverick wrote: ↑04 Sep 2020, 12:03... the pub with the amazing architecture and really lavish loos, the name of which escapes me, but parking could well be the problem. ...

Parking up there is better in terms of on-street parking although it is all meter controlled. It could well be empty ATM for all I know with the Covid-19 situation!

Re: Mick's Motoring September Stroll
Well that is not far off the plotted route. Looks like there is parking along Hope Street and we would expect to get there around 10.45. Maybe meet outside the pub, go for a wander and then return for lunch about 12.30 then on the road by 1.30. How does that grab you Paul?

My lifetime mate Bob is coming with me so we can have a laugh on the bland stretches. He is the chap who I often mention in various posts around the forum. Both our SWMBOs have given us a pass to enjoy ourselves!!

Haha, I was going to say that the tables are bookable. But you've beaten me to it.

I'm trying to get bookings done at all our dining places so we don't get caught out!! I'll pm all who we are meeting with my mobile number once I have heard from Michel who is the only one left to confirm.

Re: Mick's Motoring September Stroll
"5 more sleeps and we'll be on the road" I was informed by my goddaughter today!! I think she thought she was coming with us so I had to let her down gently, explaining that this trip will be lots of boring driving and map reading without any time for fun. She seemed happy with that!

If it's going to be such a boring trip without any fun - one wonders why you are going on it ?
