207 starting by itself

Post by Daddi franski »

Hello Peugeot enthusiasts.

I have a problem with my 207 2007 Peugeot, it just started itself, in the home parking lot luckily,, :)
in gear it hit the house and stopped with windscreen wipers on full
not sure whether it actually fully started, or just cranked itself that one meter to the house.

locked - no remote start, keys in the house

Have you any idea what this could be?
any had this happen
Ignition?
Starter solenoid?

any advice

thank you kindly

Does the car have or has it ever had a remote starter system installed? This would not be uncommon in Iceland I guess. The car won't be able to run, but is obviously cranking. So something has either been miswired / changed (especially the ignition / battery terminal wiring), or it has a malfunctioning remote starter system I would suspect.

Is it manual or automatic gearbox?

Id check the under bonnet fusbox for water ingress, Is the cover fitted correctly on it? there is a seal on it that doesnt work properly if it is not fully clipped down properly.
Does the car have stop/start system?

Thank you, yes a remoter start would be a thing to look for, but it has not a remote start,,, not that I know of, only had it for 2 years now.

Thank you, that´s a good point, the fusebox was shady when we bought it, will check it.

By stop/start i mean does the engine auto stop when you stop at traffic lights & junctions then restart automatically when you go to move off?

Was stop/start even available back in 2007?

Stop/start was first available on the C3 as early as 2005. It had known fault where water got into the stop/start ECU (located next to the radiator) which caused the engine to crank by
itself, That was why I was asking, This was the model that used a reversible alternator instead of a starter motor.
My bet here is an issue with the under bonnet fusebox.

thank you, I will check the under bonnet fusebox this weekend, would be nice to figure this out
and hopefully not to expensive to fix
