Hey all,

HDC : Controls under the steering wheel
Response data

State of the ECU: COM2008P
Reference 1 : 65114499
Reference 2 :
Faults present : 1
B1836 : transponder aerial fault

Location : Local
Variables associated with the fault

Any clues on where to start with solving this?

What is the actual fault with the car? Is it not starting? If its not starting is the immobiliser warning message coming on?
Have you tried the spare key?
We really need a bit more info about the fault.

Fault B1836 00 means there is an open circuit detected on one of the transponder aerials, or the transponder aerial (around the ignition barrel for non-keyless models) has become disconnected.

The exact reason for this will require further investigation, but suspect areas will include the switch module under the steering wheel, the electrical connections / harness or the transponder aerial itself.

You may notice starting issues at some point if you don't already have this symptom (starter will turn but engine won't start) if the problem prevents the transponder sending signals to and from the switch module.

Thanks for the info!

Symptoms are occasionally I get a message that the key isn’t in the car (when it clearly is), and it won’t start (won’t even attempt to turn over). Doesn’t matter which key I use.

It does start eventually with a couple of presses of the start button though. It’s not a huge issue at the moment as it still runs, but I would rather sort it out before it becomes a bigger problem (and I can’t drive anywhere!)

I’ll do some investigation. Thanks again!

Is this a proximity Key or do you have to slot it into the dash?

Proximity key.

Actually it just threw up the ‘Key Not Detected’ error initially when I tried to start it 10mins ago.

It did start after a couple of presses though.

Ok, leave it with me - (just having a large fridge delivered any second  ). This is a little different having a low frequency interior aerial unit - I'll get something together as soon as I can...

Have you tried new batteries in the fob?
Daughter was having problems with her Megane, both fobs. Turned out to be that they both needed new batteries.

That will generate a specific warning message on these Steve.

So as far as starting goes, there are 3 low frequency aerials on your 508. One in the boot area, one in the rear passenger compartment and one in the front passenger compartment:
hands free 508.PNG
These are the low frequency aerials:
hands free 508 B.PNG
They have 2 pin connections - positive supply on pin 1 and earth on pin 2. They localise the hands free identifier inside the vehicle.

These are supplied by the main ADML ECU in the dash.

So I suspect that one of the aerial units nay be playing up / have a faulty connection, but if you don't have a warning coming up I would ignore it for now as you can still operate the vehicle.

I can't tell you exactly where the aerials are located unfortunately.

Thankyou Marc,

Appreciate the information! I'll do some investigation into antenna locations (mainly for my own interest :-) )

Hello!

I have similar symptoms as you had, with key not being detected.
Can you tell me what was the problem, and how did you solve this issue?

Thank you

Hi all,

I'm still around, but I haven't been as engaged here! Life happens :)

I ended up leaving it alone at the time. Strangely enough, I did end up purchasing a replacement aerial from a wrecker a couple of months ago for cheap, but haven't got around to fitting it. It's on the list of things to do lol.
