Are you still up for an evening meet in Henley on the 17th James? And what about a coffee or early lunch around Gloucester area on the same day Gibbo? :)

I have been doing some work for the Stroll this morning and I have discovered that our route takes us through 35 sheets of the OS Landranger series of maps, my preferred mapping from rallying days. On examining my library of maps I have found that I only have 10 of the required sheets so I'd like to obtain the rest of the sheets required. At £8.99 per sheet that would mean an investment of £224.75. I can, and have, subscribe to the OS to have all the sheets available online or to download previously where a signal may not be available for a mere £25 per annum. I think that is excellent value considering you will always have the most up to date edition of whichever sheet you are using. Having said that if anyone has a copy of any of the sheets listed below which they are happy to loan me for September please PM me and we can arrange return postage etc which I will cover, as I really prefer to have actual maps instead of the laptop to work from. The OS Landranger Map Sheet numbers needed are:

168, 169, 155, 154, 143, 131, 122, 121, 112, 106, 101, 100, 94, 93, 88, 87, 86, 85, 90, 97, 102, 108, 117, 126, 138

:) :) :)

I don't know how long it is since you went rallying but you may find that some roads and other features have changed since those days. As well as Landranger (just called 1:50,000 back then I think) maps, suitably annotated, I have a One inch to One mile map of North Wales (The Old 108) with the outline of the new Llyn Brenig reservoir pencilled in by yours truly!

I certainly have a 117 as that's my home patch but I'm not sure about anything else as I'm not in the UK at the moment.

I have to agree Paul that most of my maps are dated but they will do for our needs on this trip, when augmented by the online reference I will have available. If you could loan me whatever you find when you return, I'll PM you contact details, and hopefully settle up when we see you in Liverpool. :-D

Had an email from one of our overnight stay venues, the Blackpool one, to say they are not sevring breakfast in the dining room due to Covid restrictions but they will supply a take away breakfast in a "doggy bag"! We'll look forward to that!! :-D

Mathewsons museum is also currently closed Mick, and they are still doing their on-line auctions. I imagine that will continue until September As well as the original site in the Village they also now have a large warehouse at Pickering in one of the industrial estates, where they store the cars pre-auction.

I have been keeping my eye on that. I emailed Derek a few weeks ago about selling my bikes for me, but he said that Japanese bikes don't sell well with him and he advised to sell them myself. The point is I have made contact so when we are nearer the time I'll email him again to see if we can have a viewing visit of something I'll pick out from the next auction due and see what happens! :-D

You may want to revise the Beamish visit. I noticed some negative comments on the recent availability if features there and my grandson has just come in and said that he and his friend from over the road had planned to go there today but there was very little available, the entry price extortionate, the times very limited and booking has to be done weeks in advance.

Afraid I have no alternatives to suggest either.

That's not great news Steve!, I have had a look at their website and at the moment they are only taking bookings up to 19th August so I think we'll sit on it for the time being and see what the position is at the end of August. They are hoping to open the transport and cafe as soon as they can so it's not totally dead yet!! However thanks for letting me know Steve, what is Tanfield Railway like as a possible alternative? :)

Tanfield Railway is a bit of a weekends and holidays type opening times Mick and looks like they are only doing pre-booked train rides on Sundays only in August at the moment.

I presume the NRM will be open in York it was free at the last count, but probably cost you £10 to park anywhere near.

We've both been to the NRM on at least three trips so don't really want to do that. Plus, of course, part of the reason for Beamish was an opportunity to meet Steve in his own territory. Other suggestions are welcome! :)

You could always have a cup of coffee and a chat Mick with a congenial host :-D Or indeed recreate Steve's recent drive out which he photographed on POTD! As far as "Attractions" go its what you like. Durham is a very good visit...as well as the viaduct/bridges/pubs coffee shops/cathedral/castle/boats/lovely riverside walks/ and the brutalist Dunelm house and the simple concrete Kingsgate pedestrian bridge next to it which was designer Ove Arup's personal favourite. All compact and easily walkable.

I spent two weeks at Durham Uni during my OU studies and thoroughly enjoyed the castle and walks through the city. I still favour Beamish if it's going to be possible so I guess it's a suck it and see job!! :)
