Comm 2000 C5 mkii 2004

Post by chasqui »

Hi

I have an intermittent problem with the key fobs not opening the doors.

Lexia shows error FC82 and OC82 depending on which part of the screen you’re looking at! With “communication with the transponder” error message shown in fault log

Everything was fine till yesterday morning when the fob wouldn’t unlock the car. Everything else
Is working ok. After the lexia session one of the fobs started to work. The other one dead. Tried the resync procedure but no joy.Later in day both stopped working.

The key will start the car so the chip is being read.

So, I’m thinking:

1. Faulty comm 2000 unit. Have you got a part number to hand?

2. Dodgy wiring to/from transponder. Where is it? I know there’s an aerial by the ignition barrel, but is there a unit behind the glovebox?

Can’t get at my vin number right now but it’s mentioned in this post
https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... hp?t=63712

Any help/suggestions appreciated!

Thanks in advance

The transponder aerial plugs directly into the com2000 unit

FC82 is simply a fault in the communication with the transponder - not characterised and I don't have an OC82 or 0C82 anywhere listed.

Basically it is from Fob to switch module in the steering wheel, to the BSI, so the switch module is likely to be a good place to start. The Transponder coil in the ignition barrel only deals with the starting of the vehicle where it handshakes and relays signals back and forth from the fob to the BSI. The transponder coil isn't used in the locking and unlocking process and is not shown anywhere in the electrical process for locking and unlocking.

Do you have an aftermarket stereo fitted?
Com2000 units as we know do fail but it’s almost always worn out contacts of moving parts or the airbag rotary connector. A failed RF receiver in the unit would be very rare but of course still a possibility.
You should be able to go into live data (cant remember if this is done in the com2000 menu or BSI) and see if the car is seeing the remote signal. If you can see the signal being received then this would likely rule out the com2000 & point more to a sync issue.
First thing I would try is doing a BSI reset. If that doesn’t work try re pairing the keys & remotes with lexia.

I’m failing miserably.

Is the module attached to the comma 2000? There is nothing that looks untowards. I’ve jiggled around the wires and still didn’t work. Then put everything back together and and started the car. Then when engine turned off the fob worked.. after ten minutes it had failed again.

Would you have the part number for the comms 2000 unit? On lexia now getting error that comms 2000 not talking to bsi, so thought I’d replace it to rule it out.

Thanks in advance.

It's part number 6242S5. Citroen charge £384.53 inc. VAT, but have a look here, I've done the search for you@

https://peugeotpartsforsale.com/index.p ... egory_id=0

The difference between the £150 and the £200 one is one is refurbished, the other is new. Don't forget you will need to retain your original audio and cruise control stalks as these are not included. You also have ESP so you will likely need the steering wheel angle sensor calibrated once replaced. Just don't allow the clockspring to rotate prior to fitting - it should be locked in place though.

I would not recommend a second hand one of these either - some breakers are selling used ones for nearly the price of a new one of those ^

Just out of interest, what is item 20 in the diagram?
If it’s yellow and sits on or near the spring that s linked to the steering column height release, mine was in pieces. But don’t think it’s relevant for my problem!

That LOOKS like a simple cover for the space for the cruise control stalk. Not all cars have cruise control (which means the CC stalk is not fitted, so to prevent anything getting into the unit this hole would be covered). There is normally only one, as (to the best of my knowledge) there always is an audio stalk fitted.

It's called the 'Secondary Control, Support Block' and is for vehicles without the speed control stalk on the left.

I'm a bit more concerned about the yellow object you are referring to - it's usually the airbag wiring connection clasps that are yellow plastic, so I would be a bit cautious there.

When replacing the steering control module, make sure you have the front seats back as far as possible, being that these are electric - and that the steering wheel is dead ahead. Then disconnect the battery following this guide BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure before starting any work on replacing the unit.

Thanks again everyone

The yellow item definitely came from the spring on the steering column linked to the locking height adjustment mechanism lever.
