Good evening
The cable on my handbrake requires adjusting so to avoid causing any damage to the internal trim I would be grateful if someone could explain how to get to the cable adjuster

Before you set about adjusting the handbrake cable be sure to check that the calliper lever is going right back to the stop, it may be that you have a problem there, handbrake cables rarely need adjusting once set up at original fitting.

Re: C 5 2009 manual handbrake adjustment
Cheers Marc / Gibbo
I replaced the rear calipers a while ago as the off side one was sticking even though the wind back was free.
I made sure the caliper arms were on the stops but as the brakes have bedded in the cable needs adjusting
Thanks again

Re: C 5 2009 manual handbrake adjustment
The cable shouldn't need adjusting, just press the brake pedal really hard a few times, and this should adjust up the mech in the calipers.

That's why I said to check that the lever on the calliper was back to the stop Richard, the self adjuster doesn't work if it isn't.

Re: C 5 2009 manual handbrake adjustment
Hi Guys
Update
As mentioned previously I replaced my calipers on the rear as one of them was sticking so using the wind back tool to push the pistons back I fitted the pads and made sure the handbrake levers on the calipers were on the stops.
The pedal seemed to have more travel than the original units and the hand brake lever also had more travel not to mention the handbrake not holding until it was pulled a substantial way hence the question regarding adjustment.
I gave it a while to bed in and self adjust which it didn't so following the advice I removed the handbrake gaiter and put the car in first gear
Using a long flat screwdriver I pushed the plunger towards the drivers seat and pressed the brake pedal firmly around 10 times I repeated the procedure again just for good measure and the handbrake is now fine and the brake pedal doesn't have as much travel in it.
I needed to sort this as we are going away for a few days with the caravan
So all is good thanks to the knowledge on this forum
Kind regards
Steve

Re: C 5 2009 manual handbrake adjustment
If the caravan has brakes make sure to minimise any reversing while towing it. Braked trailers are hell on wheels for Dual Mass Flywheels, and can reduce their working life considerably. I have not personally experienced this, but there are tales on the forum from members who have.

Re: C 5 2009 manual handbrake adjustment
Hi Hell Razor
Hopefully no reversing unless forced to do so
The caravan is 880kg and is fitted with a motor mover to get it up my drive.
This also comes in handy when reversing onto the pitch
Regards
