Ds5 error code wont reset.

Post by Chris36brown »

Hi . I have a 2014 Ds5. Service light on dash. Been to garage. Error code p1445. Garage checked the dpf filter. All the readings are ok. Tried to reset the error code but it wouldnt clear. They told the car it had a new dpf filter, this also wouldnt reset. Actually nothing would reset whatever they tried. Any ideas please.

Hi Chris and welcome.

This obviously wasn't a dealer you took it to.

Your likely problem will be either that the garage you used hasn't got the right software on their diagnostics kit to tell the engine ECU that a new DPF has been fitted. Or it may also be down to where they are trying to update the setting. Sometimes it may need to be done where the Engine ECU parameters are set or it could be under the replacement parts section.

I do know that if it is not done in the correct place, no amount of code resetting will make any difference - as far as the car is concerned it does not know the new filter has been replaced. As a consequence it may be enough to prevent regeneration taking place if the engine ECU thinks the old filter is there - so it may put the engine into a back up mode.

If your garage cannot undertake the operation, take it to Citroen and they should be able to do it for you - but of course will charge you - so I would strongly suggest you ask your garage to cough up for the charge if they can't do it. An hour of diagnostic time will be about £90.

Thanks Marc for the quick reply,
My car drives perfect . no problems at all.
so... rewind back to feb 2020. took my car to citroen for standard service, this is where they told me my car needed new dpf filter with the error code p1445. They quoted me about £1000 quid to replace inc additive , obv with covid , not done much about it until last week. Took my car to a different garage that cleans dpf filters, they ran their diagnostics on it , they informed me they wouldnt clean the dpf filter as all the readings were really low and they would clear the error code and take it from there. This is where they started having problems. they were on citroens network with the reader. also updated the software on my ecu. not sure if they did anything with the ecu parameters. I know they went into the replacement parts section, as this is where they told the car it had a new dpf, but it wouldnt accept the new part when they hit the green Tick.

They should not need to update any ECU unless specifically required to (for example as a result of a technical service bulletin). Sometimes an engine ECU may need an update to the software for a specific model to resolve a specific issue.

Have you got a a warning light on the dash at all - engine management of DPF warning?

The service light is permanently on. And it says "engine fault " on the dash when i hit the start button.

I think the garage looked for an update to see if this sorted the problem, obv it didnt. the garage didnt charge me a penny to be fair, as they hadnt sorted it. So maybe there were no updates ?

This fault doesn't necessarily switch on the engine management light directly according the the fault code, but the engine ECU may by association, trigger the EML because of the emissions system related fault as a warning to the driver (with or without a related message on your display). But it will need to be sorted sooner as it will be an MOT failure, which is why I asked Chris.

It must be something to do with the ecu parameters then, i have someone else take a look, i will mention about these parameters. Like i said the car drives perfect, which is more annoying lol. just want the error code gone. Do you know what the ecu parameters are meant to be. ?

What I meant earlier is that the DPF replacement option can be set in several places (depending on Injection system / Engine ECU used). Using Diagbox software (that the dealers use) and depending on the version of that, the setting could be in the replacement parts menu from the main menu, or it may be done from the engine ECU repair options menu.

ok i understand now. I know they were using diagbox software. I saw them try it from the replacement parts menu, which didnt work. Maybe they didnt try the other option. Thanks for your help. i will mention all this when i get the reader on it.

Hi Marc,
Thanks for the previous help and advice, The error code is now removed and no longer an issue with DPF errors, Again the car drives fine. It did pick up another error code though , Oil level sensor. This must be faulty as the error code comes straight back on. Couple of things. Firstly do you know where this would be located on my car, and Secondly do you have access to getting genuine part numbers. ?

Thanks in Advance.
