As well all know,
There is an issue with the injector bolts on the 1.6 Hdi engines.
The get loose over time. This causes huffing/ticking etc.
What is the correct way to get this issue sorted? When the bolts are torqued - should it be done when the engine is hot or cold?
Can someone point me to or share with me - a guide that has been put together after much experience with this issue please.
I clearly have some oil/gunk deposits around injector 3.
Thanks,
Andle.

Re: HDi - injector bolts - correct procedure
Officially, these are tightened using an injector tightening adaptor and Torque wrench with associated fitting:
[8] Diesel injector tightening adaptor (-).1608.C | [7] Torque wrench (-).1608.A - (1 to 5 daNm) |
Tighten the nuts (11) to 0,4 ± 0,04 daN.m using tools [7 - 9]. | Observe the following angular tightening method: Position the zero (marking " e") facing the operator Place the mobile index "d" opposite the gradation 65° Tighten progressively and in one single action bringing the mobile index "d" opposite the zero (marking "e") of the tool [8] Angular tighten to 65° ± 5° the nuts (11). |

Re: HDi - injector bolts - correct procedure
This is exactly the point where it all starts to go wrong- time and again.
In my opinion based on painful experience, all the injectors need to come out. Keep them in the correct order. The injector seats in the head need a kiss and polish.
New copper seals all round and new injector tube seals. [Your no.3 seal will likely have burnt away already- hence the deposit]
Reassemble with a smear of very high temperature grease. I torque down with a inch/pound wrench- the threads of the stud and the nuts must be clean and lubricated to ensure your torque settings are true. For the angular tightening I used a printed and cut out protractor.
And now to the next hurdle. Again in my opinion- the sump needs to come off to inspect the the oil pick up gauze filter. And so on.....

Picasso xsara 1.6 hdi 2007.
90k miles.
Injector leak.
Tyres need doing, timing belt, and a pulley bearing in engine bay is squeaking.
Need need new tyres + tracking.
Is it worth fixing this car - or would i be better off buying a new car?
If I could keep the costs (exuding the tyres & tracking) below £500 - I would keep it. I just don't know how to make that happen.

Re: HDi - injector bolts - correct procedure
I've got to chuckle- I'm an old gezzer confined to a wheel chair. And it took me about a year, crawling round on hands and knees to sort my 1.6 Hdi
On a serious note, doing a proper fix is a job that would cost a small fortune, so forget it unless your going to do the job yourself.
Selling it with declared faults would bring few buyers, I suspect. But if the body shell is rust free there my be more interest.
So you may be left with just one option- tighten all the injectors down to the 1 click of the wrist setting- and see what happens.
