Hit too hard. oh bugger!
So the long running saga that is my Citroen C5 has reached another problem.
I had a local guy come and take off the hub carrier/wheel bearing housing ?? (Don't know what its called) to remove the old hub and push in a new bearing and new hub. He then fitted it back and all looks good.
I have come to refit the calliper and it would seem that the hub carrier is now bent as the calliper mounting bracket is now lightly scuffing the brake disk.
I checked the good side with a steel rule and they are straight and true. I checked this side and the lower bolt hole is showing a slight bend towards the disk.
Im going to ask a stupid question now. Can I just bash it back? Or will it dangerously weaken it?
What is the official name of this part just incase I have to find another. Couldn't happen at a worse time as I need to get to see ageing Father who's not long for this world.

Re: Hit too hard. oh bugger!
You'll need to pop your VIN up so I can get you the correct part numbers, but here's the diagram to help you identify the components:
Let me know the number on the diagram for the part numbers when you post your VIN.

Re: Hit too hard. oh bugger!
Hi. On the diagram its part A and the VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Do you know what this is made from? Is it an alloy? Surprised it bent but then he was knocking it out with a club hammer.
Thank you.

Re: Hit too hard. oh bugger!
Ok, so A is not available from Citroen separately. The Front Swivel Pin comes complete with items A, D, 3 & 14.
The Kit for the Right side is Part number: 1640790480, £364.45
The Kit for the Left side is Part number: 1640790280, £334.15
All prices inc. VAT direct from Citroen.
I can't tell you what it is made of unfortunately.

Re: Hit too hard. oh bugger!
Thanks Marc. Is it worth trying a bit of a knock with a club hammer to get it back to where it should be? I'm only out just over 1mm.

Re: Hit too hard. oh bugger!
I'd be a bit concerned to be honest - I mean they are paranoid as it is about the components when changing the front pivot lower ball joint:
At the end of the day this is your suspension geometry that has an impact on the stability / braking / steering. They're really not designed to be bashed about to be honest.
- Do not carry the strengthening strut by the ball joint.
- Do not pivot the ball joint extensively, observe the small amplitudes of operation.
- Any parts which have suffered impacts, fallen on the ground, must not be used.
- The position of the ball joint on delivery must not be modified (Inner race of the bearing at the bottom of the clamp ).
- During handling, the seal must be protected against any cuts or tears.
- Keep the part in a clean environment (Protect against the entry of contamination into the inner diameter ).

Re: Hit too hard. oh bugger!
OK. Thank you. Ive found an alternative in France for 240 euros so its a bit cheaper. Thank you for your prompt help. So without tapping it how are you supposed to get them off and on?

Re: Hit too hard. oh bugger!
Officially they use a press to extract and insert the bearings. But it depends on what procedure you are removing / refitting:
Front Pivot
Front Pivot - Lower Ball Joint
Front Pivot - Support, Flexible Bushes
Front Pivot - Upper Ball Joint
Front Suspension - Lower Arm
etc....

Re: Hit too hard. oh bugger!
I had the whole assemble removed so it could get a press for putting in the bearing. This was done by removing the 3 torx head bolts in the lower ball joint and then knocking the assembly out so it slid off the top ball joint bolt. Is there a proper way of doing this?

I'm sure I've put a procedure up somewhere - if not I'll see if I get time tomorrow - Lower Ball Joint procedure yes?

Re: Hit too hard. oh bugger!
Well its the removal of the whole assembly marked A on the diagram. As you point out they provide it complete with lower ball joint attached and also hub and bearing.
As this needs replacing I will just take it all out and put new one in.
Thank you very much.

Re: Hit too hard. oh bugger!
I thought I had put this up previously:
Here is the link to the procedure for the Front Pivot Lower Ball Joint:
viewtopic.php?p=597726#p597726
I'll look for the other one on the Pivot itself.

Re: Hit too hard. oh bugger!
Thanks for that. It almost always is easier in theory than in practice.
