Do the injectors need coding in? I can't see anything obvious on the top of the injector (presumably hexadecimal) that would be a code.

I've seen things written about it Paul but not too sure. I can't see it being too much of a problem - especially seeing as I currently have no use of the vehicle!

Yes, they do and the code on your original picture for this specific injector is arrowed in green (B4FJKJ) in this example.

I'll be putting something up shortly as promised, it takes me a while to do...

Thank you Marc appreciate it.

Should I be in a rush to programme them?

Yes, because a unique code is generated for each injector during the stages of manufacturing that specifically relate to the exact tolerance range of the needle and assembly. This info is needed by the engine ECU to provide the correct fuelling. Considering that the fuel is injected through a nozzle that it a thirtieth of the width of a human hair, it is important to code them.

Possible issues if they are not coded / coded correctly can lead to refusal to start, poor running, smoking, increase in fuel consumption, increased emissions etc., so not a good idea to leave this.

Anyway, I have completed the illustrated guide for you and it can now be found in the Resources Section of the Member's Area:

If you are referring to injector coding, this will be required for every modern car that uses a common rail high pressure direct injection and later petrol models too.

The Diagnostic tool used by PSA for their vehicles is a hardware Vehicle Communications Interface (VCI - the hardware) and the software - Lexia for older cars and Diagbox for later models circa 2007 /8 on.

The coding operation is handled by the diagnostic equipment and is a guided procedure. Other Marques will have their own diagnostic kits to do a similar operation.

Interesting that the code is not hexadecimal and is only 6 characters long.

It can't be hex if it has 'J' or 'K' in it. It must be some other system.

I meant as of 6, not the abbreviated Hex. from Hexadecimal.

Tom Injector Washer.PNG
Item (8) is Part: 1982G6 (Engine Injector Protection)
Item (9) is Part: 198194 (Injector Seal) 7.07/14.9 EP2.1-CN

If that helps

Thanks Marc, not sure if possible but can I find a list of cars and years that use the same injector?
