Revised date for the real trip is 6th-11th September all things permitting!!
The intention is to carry out the originally planned route but spread over an extra day to allow more chance to meet people.!

If we're in the country I'll make the effort.

Great stuff Paul, I'll work out the new schedule with the extra time and post it up in the next few days and then we can look at where and whens!!

Re: Mick's Motoring September Stroll
Well, I have put together a first draft schedule for the September Stroll. Because I am no longer restricted by airport runs etc. I have added an extra day to the plan making it 4 overnights at York, Newcastle, Blackpool and Worcester. This means changing some of the planned meets but I believe the new layout offers better opportunities. Lunch at the Drift Cafe will now be dinner at a suitably equipped pub where hopefully we can stay as well, seeking recommendations on that one!! Then lunch around the mersey tunnel to be sorted, hopefully with Paul and others who can join in. Dinner in Henley is still as originally planned but we should have time for an extra lunch meet around the Gloucester area if anyone (Gibbo) is up for that? So have a look and throw up any suggestions:

I saw that Beamish may be ditched but it needs to come after the transporter bridge Mick.

Re: Mick's Motoring September Stroll
Thanks for that Steve, we do have more time with the new plan so Beamish may well be possible but I cannot finalise that bit until we know where we are staying and what the possibilities are of meeting you and Neil for dinner and an ale or two! Once we have sorted it I will edit the schedule accordingly but I'll leave it for the time being to save having to do it twice!!

I will have a bit ponder, but as you can imagine my hotel knowledge of my own patch is very sketchy never having used the facilities. There is one at South Shields called Littlehaven right on the beach at the mouth of the Tyne South Side. Steve could freewheel down to Shields from Washington It has one of those arty installations..."The Conversation Piece" next to it.
Much as I love Newcastle, its far too towny for me. Coast and Country are always my preference

Do you have any tentative date for September?

Re: Mick's Motoring September Stroll
Good point Paul!! I forgot the date is not on the schedule because at this stage I want to keep it slightly flexible. However the current dates allocated in my diary are from 6th -11th so Day 1 on the schedule is Sunday 6th September. cheers

Re: Mick's Motoring September Stroll
Neil, totally happy to go wherever we can get together for dinner and a beer, if we can stay there too even better because it will mean we can relax more.NewcastleFalcon wrote: ↑23 Jun 2020, 17:22 I will have a bit ponder, but as you can imagine my hotel knowledge of my own patch is very sketchy never having used the facilities. At least we won't have to worry about rushing onward on the trip by meeting in the evening.

Re: Mick's Motoring March Meander
Sorry but can't help with hotels etc. Never stay anywhere, last time was The Auberge in Brussels about twelve years ago. Same with cafe's and restaurants, Bargain Books in somewherorother, maybe Alnwick.
Never eat out or go to pubs. Life and soul of nobodies party.
Only place I can think of in Shields is the Grotto in Marsden, if it still exists, haven't been there since long before the arch collapsed.

Re: Mick's Motoring September Stroll
Potential date change in the offing. A wedding in Ireland which was cancelled in March has been rescheduled for 10th September so i will now have to plan for 20th-25th. Watch this space.

Re: Mick's Motoring September Stroll
Just an update. Bob and I are meeting on Friday 17th July for lunch and among other things we will be discussing the Stroll route and overnight stops. I expect the route to be pretty much as last posted so I will be looking for overnight stops in York, Newcastle, Blackpool and Worcester so any suggestions before Friday would be helpful. The dates have been firmed up as 20th-24th September.

Re: Mick's Motoring September Stroll
I have rescheduled day 2 of the Stroll to take account of contributions, and make meets at both lunchtime and evening a possibility. It would be more fun if we can all get together but everybody's own situations play their part. Day three has no suggested meets yet so anyone in the Hadrians Wall to Blackpool area give me a shout. Day 4 will hopefully include a meet for lunch around Liverpool area with Paul and anyone else about? Day five may start with a coffee with Gibbo and then dinner with James and anyone else around? :
