C8 rear door won't open

Post by Sheppy84 »

hi all,

I've got a bit of a problem with my rear door on by C8. It doesn't open at all.

Tried using the key, inside button on the door and button from the drivers seat.

I get an audible single beep when I try. Other door works fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks

You should be able to open it manually. From the outside, you need to pull the door lever and with it pulled toward you, slide the door at the same time.

The single beep means there is a fault and likely the electrical power is not getting through. Broken wires are a likely culprit on these.

Thanks for this. Will removing the interior door panel reveal the wiring to start looking?

The prime suspect on the C8 for side door problems are the 'Piano' contacts.
Once you get the door open. Once you get the door open give then a good clean on both door & body side. Obviously don't use anything conductive like a wire brush to do this or you could do some electrical damage. I would use some very fine emery paper & some contact cleaner. Also make sure all the 'fingers' spring back out freely when released, lube as necessary.
Do the other side too while you are at it to avoid future problems with that. The doors should re sync once they are fully closed manually again.

So I can't manually open the door.

It feels like the handle isn't attached to anything. According to the wife its been like that for a while 🤦‍♂️.

So there's no tension to open the doors in either the outside and inside handle.

I guess the door panel needs to come off as something as snapped. Would this effect the button and key operation?

It may be stuck in the deadlocked state, get the door panel off first & take it from there.
