Re: The "C5" Gallery (Originals please)

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

New member Patrick Ward who owns an X-reg ( registered on 15th feb 2001) posed a question of whether his was one of the first C5's registered in the UK.

viewtopic.php?p=647231#p647231

I managed to dig out this from the motoring press at the time, Autocar's "C5 first drive" from their 21st February 2001 Issue. Only the editorial, but for the interested the issue is buyable on e-bay.

You can buy that copy but here is the editorial on it

If the little Pic of the LHD C5 by the side of the editors comments is anything to go by looks like Autocar might have had a day out in France to try it out. Makes Patrick's Feb 2001 X-Reg one even more of a novelty. Patrick did say the official launch was March....makes more sense to coincide with the new Y reg.

The magazine arrived today and the C5 write up is a whole 6 pages. I will photograph and post them IF anybody is interested but if not I'll settle for reading it myself! :-D

If the C5 Airscape had gone into production, I probably would of had one:
C5 Airscape.jpg
Made for the Frankfurt motor show in 2007 as they weren't ready to reveal the new C5 X7 design to the public yet - a bit pointless as the main characteristics are clear to see for its release in Jan 2008.

Aha, but mine has 4 doors and an innovative Vcar pilot by remote scheme which I used at the Tyne Tunnel crossing to very good effect. See the March Meander Tyne Tunnel crossing for more information.!! :-D

Plus of course I always like my cars to look a bit rough round the edges so people don't expect me to be rich!! :-D

It looks very nice, but I wonder how well it would have driven. It would need extra stiffening, and the hydropneumatics suspension (if it were fitted) could make the ride 'interesting'.

I can't see where they would have got the strength necessary for the windscreen surround in the event of a roll-over if they had gone to production. Does look good though.

I did see a BMW advert where they had one cabriolet balanced on the windscreen of another cabriolet, and the rake of the windscreen was quite steep.

The windscreen supports would be specially reinforced, and there would be integrated anti roll bars that automatically protrude if toppled; but as convertibles generally have a lower centre of gravity, they are less prone to toppling.
