Good effort Mick :-D I probably threw you off the scent thinking myself originally it was an orchid. The flowers look quite orchid like.

Well the 31st May 2020 brings the inauguration of POTD Insect Club

Any entomologists care to identify our little friend with the chitinous exoskeleton, three-part body (head, thorax and abdomen), hexapod with three pairs of jointed legs, compound eyes and one pair of antennae.

My thoughts would be Cercopis vulnerata - or the Red and Black Froghopper....... no idea why it'd be called that though :lol:

There are an awful lot of red and black bugs but I'd guess that's a milkweed beetle.

LIke the name, and the pattern is a very good match and common in Britain, so I think on the inaugural outing of POTD Insect Club the points go to Bobins.

Probably more likely than the Milkweed Bug in the UK
I have read or seen about Milkweed being a very important food plant across the USA for the mass migration of Monarch Butterflies from Mexico. to and from Northern states of the US and Canada.

I should have posted this yesterday, because of family history. The link shows my Great Uncle Jim (who also was my Godfather) of the left of the row. Eighty years ago yesterday his DFC was promulgated in the London Gazette;

"Distinguished Flying Cross
"Flight Lieutenant James Robert Maitland BOOTHBY (39023)
"This officer has consistently led his section with skill and efficiency. He himself shot down three enemy aircraft in one day."

I can only describe my Picture of the Day Diptych as a POTD Nature Club near miss. For true continuity's sake the photographs should be "read" right to left, as that is the direction in which the near miss proceded.
