I'm a heathen and don't count for the rule of three.
Besides, like Jon Snow, I knows nothing.

The Imp was a blue one though :)

Find the answer in the FCF..Q5

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

Not intended to be frustratingly difficult, some may even be familiar with it without FCF assistance, but within the last couple of days it has received an airing on the FCF.

I have good reason to believe that is the Vanden Plas factory in Kingsbury! I visited there on many occasions to repair their telephone system!! :)

Yes Mick I thought it would be round about your patch. I posted a video of a 6 minute Thames Television's visit there on the subject of the Allegro Vanden Plas here

Classic cars what have you spotted?

Have to do a little curiosity follow up...havent come across vanden-plas work recently, I presume the place and facade will still be in existence, but is it still a factory and are vanden plas still there?

I'll have a little ferret myself but if you or anyone else has anything to chip in please do.

The FCF in its archives has had a bit delve into Vanden Plas, with the font often being ARonline....tremendous site.

and in those delvings this wonderful creation of Vanden Plas, so wonderful the plug was pulled, but you would have one of these wouldn't you...

We've only ever had one VP in the family fleet and that was a Metro which I bought my daughter after she graduated. She loved it and drove it until the never ending offers from her mechanic finally enticed her into selling it to him. That was in around 2008 she finally succumbed and her mechanic is still using it today when he wants a rest from his Scooby. It was this colour scheme she had:
BFTW
BFTW

Back in the late 70s/early 80s, BL Cars ran a ‘100 Club’ for their top 100 performing dealer principals. Rewards typically included holidays abroad, etc.

At the end of 1980 the award was to be a top of the range car. At that time, the dealer network was still split very much between Austin Morris and Jaguar Rover Triumph. In the latter case it was a simple matter of awarding a Rover Vanden Plas SD1. However, it was felt that the Austin-Morris guys deserved better than ‘just’ a Princess 2200 HLS, so the 100 Club Special was produced.

That was back in the day when the purple range of colours was used in lots of ways as a celebratory colour:
BFTW
BFTW
The Morris Million, another example of Austin-Rover using purple to celebrate. Nowadays it has become more of a funeral colour sadly!! :(

Didn't know about those Mick so for me another gem unearthed.

Read a bit more here which is an interesting and detailed piece on them down to Kevin Philpot an 18 year old apprentice and his boot badge adapting skills. It is an excellent read and some excellent pictures.

Thanks
