Accident damage to my C5 X7

Post by admiral51 »

Hi guys/gals.
Well why on earth would anyone leave a rear parcel shelf sat in the outside lane of the A31
As you may guess it flipped as i drove over it, didnt see it until the van in front passed over it ( wider track ) and at approx 75 mph it stuck into the front grille and smashed the o/s indicator+fog assembly.
Good news is there is no damage to paint work and the front grille itself only got pushed in a bit and everything clipped properly back into place along with chrome trim.
Both bulbs are still in the holders and both work and all locating lugs appear to be undamaged [-o<

I have had a quick look online and found a few but with various part numbers.

Any chance i could have a part number please :-D

And do i need to remove the bumper to fit it

Hi Colin, sorry to hear that. I had part of somebody's brick wall flick up from the van in front of me on my Xantia a good few years ago and it holed the floor pan!

If it's the fog light assembly, then (for your VIN ending 926):
Colin Fog.PNG
6208 J4 for the Left hand side
6206 J4 for the Right hand side.

Yes Marc thats the one thanks for that.
That looks like it needs fixing from behind so bumper off ??
Seen various price ranges of 6206 J4 is it worth just getting one from main dealers, it should be the correct one fingers crossed.

And yes got very lucky, the old girl took the hit very well all things considered.

That reminded me of when I was buying up scrap cars, I'd loaded one on the truck and driven off, looked in the mirror an could see the bonnet of the scrapper flying up in the air like a kite.

Fortunately nobody got in the way, checked them all after that. The guy had sold the original bonnet and just dumped a spare one on without bolting it down

No, you can replace these easier enough with bumper in place. I had water ingress in one fog lamp that I replaced - and now water has got into the other so will need to do that at some point. Here's the instructions - angle them out is the easiest way with some flat plastic trim removal tools where stated:
Colin A.PNG
Remove: The proximity sensor support (2) bolt (1).
Colin B.PNG
Unclip - Detach: The proximity sensor mounting (2) ( as "a") using trim tools.
Disconnect the connector ( as "b").
Remove: The bracket (Proximity sensor) (2).

Colin C.PNG
Remove bolts (4).
Unclip - Detach: The front fog lamp and front direction indicator (3) assembly ( as "c") using trim tools.
Disconnect the connectors ( as "d", "e").
Remove: The front fog lamp and front direction indicator (3) assembly.

I had water ingress into one of mine too. I was going to replace it but when I took it out I could see the problem was caused by a rubber piece on the back being fitted upside down. It was a sort of ventilation piece as I recall but I could see how it would let rainwater in when fitted incorrectly.
No problem since.

That's interesting - I know the tube type thing you are on about as when I took mine out I couldn't see anywhere the water was getting in apart from there - the seal looked intact and I had previously tried to reseal it with some silicon. That failed (or so I thought) necessitating a replacement, so interested to hear what you say about that tube. The thing is, the other side has just started to get a stack of water in it and I'm wondering how - when it has been fine for years and never been off before.

I may during lockdown decide to take that one off then and have a closer look at that tube.

Main Stealers wanted £142 for said part and it is on back order, i wonder why lol
Have ordered one from Auto Doc for £68 delivered a Hella branded one has been dispatched so hopefully by end of the week it will back up and running, thankfully the car is not needed this week :)
