Diagbox software digital down load.

Post by discv »

I've jumped the gun and bought [ from Easydiagnostics] a digital download of Diagbox v7.57. I did not know that the download was time limited.
However, the pc that I intend to use is not ready yet. Bits of hardware needed are still in China!
I there a way to get this download on to USB, or whatever?
Easy Diagnostics appear to advertise that my purchase would give me Bronze Membership, and that that would give me software back up. But that is not happening.

Thanks Marc. I have messaged ED to ask if it might be possible to get the software on CD from them, accepting there might be a cost to me.
That would be the way out of all my troubles.

As always- I've got an almost instant response-
"Hi Tony just let me know whenever you need the download and I can send you new links. The download comes in ZISO format so you can burn it directly to to a blank dvd.
Regards" quote.

Now I just need to find out how to do this. I hope to find a way of using my Mac Pro to burn the disk,

This is not going well. I can find no reference this ZISO format anywhere.

I think he has made a typo there - he probably means ISO. An ISO file is basically an image of a CD or DVD. Once you download the ISO file, you should be able to put a blank DVD recordable disc in your drive, right click the ISO file and 'burn the image to disc', depending on your operating system.

You need to run this software on a Windows PC - it's not MAC compatible incidentally.

As an alternative - if you have a diagnostic laptop ready, copy the ISO file over to the laptop, then use a programme like Virtual Clone Drive (https://www.elby.ch/en/products/vcd.html) that is free to virtually mount the ISO file on your laptop. Your laptop will then assign a drive letter and you can install the programme from there as if it was installing from a DVD ROM drive.

Many thanks Marc. And in a way that I can understand!
I have bootcamp on my mac, so I can get into Win 7 Pro. So I should download the ISO file to a location on the PC. I should then burn this to a DVD. That would then give me a disc to directly install Diagbox without having to create a clone drive. Have i got this right?

Yes, image burning software is quite common. But personally, I would simply copy the ISO image over to your diagnostic laptop using a USB flash drive / memory key and use 'Virtual Clone Drive' to mount the image - and install it from there.

This would eliminate any issues you may have in burning the ISO file, as we know that this can be fraught with CRC or other media reading / writing errors - and if you are using 'record once' media - you don't get a second chance of course.

Any issues, happy to advise where I can.

I've finally managed to download an ISO. image from ED's provider. Numerous attempts- numerous failure notices, but in the end a disc image is mounted.
Diagbox v 7.01 successfully installed! Restarted PC- reopened Diagbox- it notifies an update in progress and then this:-

I would be a little concerned about the numerous failures you mentioned, as any problem in a single installation can affect operation - ans may have thrown some issues into the mix....

But first a few things to check:

When you installed it initially and completed the installation to the point of putting in your information (address, postcode & phone section), you would click the option to 'Validate'. At this point, you don't restart the PC, you must first close down the Diagbox application.

When Diagbox has finished closing (make sure it has fully closed), then re-launch Diagbox.

This starts to automatically apply the built in update that takes it to version 7.01.

Then restart the computer.

You would then install the next update you want, then start Diagbox, then it applies the update on launch. Allow it to finish, then restart the PC again. Then repeat to apply the next update, launch Diagbox, allow it to update itself, close, the restart PC, etc.etc.,

If you are not getting to this stage then it has failed to install properly I suspect.

Always right click the installation setup and 'Run as Administrator' and always allow all firewall requests to go through.

The failures I mentioned only presented when downloading the ISO. Once it appeared to download OK it [somehow] automatically found the virtual drive that you recommended. All went well- v7.01 installed- I then closed the programme. Perhaps restarting at this point was a mistake- maybe I should have simply relaunched Diagbox.
Guess I'm going to uninstall/ re install and see what happens

Be wary uninstalling the software via control panel as it won't fully uninstall it, nor clean the directories or the registry.

I'll send you a PM shortly with further details.
