Hi and welcome
You need to set the HDD to slave, because the DVD is the Primary Boot Device, not the HDD.
Don't worry too much about cloning the original HDD - it will more often fail. When you have the HDD and DVD working ok, just boot off the latest firmware in the USB socket and it will reinstall and create the partitions automatically - but make sure the CF card is formatted FAT32 first and NOT with a Mac.

CF card - formating FAT23 (Win7) - Firmware on SD card - not work - internal error 0x3019 - 67%
My firmware on SD card is ok, HDD Thosiba or HDD Seagate - update end 100%
please send my firmware

If I will put 2CF/IDE adapter + CF card in NG4, not work USB and DVD drive
Your firmware - copy in USB and SD card
Firmware on USB key - nothing happened
Firmware on SD card - internal error 0x3019 - 67%
I don't have the nerve (I burn my car, NG4, Garage, Notebook, CF card, Adapter - and I will be happy)
This is adapter is bad, not working CF card in NG4
I understand it correctly
CF slot 1 - master (CN1)
CF slot 2 - slave (CN2)
jumper settings
Yellou - master
Red - slave
soldering this pin? (slave)
I have this adapter - not work

This adapter is ok? or?

Re: Guide to Replacing the NG4 Navidrive 3D Hard Drive with a CF Card
Hi, many thanks for the guide.
I am thinking I didnt push the CF on IDE adaptor into the pins far enough. Everything works fine except when I press the NAV button I get stuck at the loading page. Would this be the symptom if no HD was connected?
Thanks

or perhaps the soldering of the IDE adaptor is touching the hd tray. The front part where the pins are had very little clearance.

Re: Guide to Replacing the NG4 Navidrive 3D Hard Drive with a CF Card
1) Is the system booting ok when you start the car?
2) Is the delay only when you switch to the Map screen or is there any delay when you switch to other screens?
3) When you installed the CF card, did you install a formatted CF card and then boot off the firmware in the USB and allow the Operating system to be installed from scratch, or did you copy your old hard drive over?
4) As for the actual Maps, have you reinstalled these from scratch since the CF card was installed?
If you can answer some of these it may help me understand your problems in relation to your particular setup.

Re: Guide to Replacing the NG4 Navidrive 3D Hard Drive with a CF Card
Hi, thanks for the response.
I have just pulled the hd tray out of the box now and put insulating tape around it. I also checked that the adaptor and card are fully in the pins.
Same result. System boots, radio and everything fine, then when I go to NAV it gets suck at loading.
I followed your original instructions so HD out, clone onto CF card. HD was working fine but suffering from the 30 min resets.
Perhaps something got corrupted along the way. Shall I try the usb update? I was already running N42c
Thanks

Re: Guide to Replacing the NG4 Navidrive 3D Hard Drive with a CF Card
one possibility. I put the CF card back to master after I had cloned the HD image, should it have remained slave? or doesnt that matter?

Re: Guide to Replacing the NG4 Navidrive 3D Hard Drive with a CF Card
Ok, so several things.
First, the HDD / CF Card IDE interface must be set to slave, as the primary boot device is the DVD ROM and the HDD is the Slave.
As you've confirmed you cloned you HDD, you may have cloned some errors, so the best thing I can suggest, is what I have done and recommend - is a fresh installation.
Format the CF card with Windows using FAT32.
Then fit the card back in, making sure you have the correct jumper settings
Boot off the Firmware in the USB Port
Allow it to completely reinstall. It will recreate the partitions for you, but may take a while to do, and the engine MUST be left running, so don't interrupt the process. Best to leave it until you have the time (and make sure you have plenty of fuel ).
After that, allow the system to shut down and leave the car locked for a good 10 minutes to allow the computer networks to sleep.
Go back in and test the functionality
Next install your maps (bear in mind these always fail part way through, just allow it to restart and leave the USB in - it will continue afterwards to complete.
This will make sure your map software is freshly installed onto the new card.
See how you get on.

Thanks for your help and the excellent guide!
I changed the adapter to slave and also found a bent pin. Everything is working fine now!

Re: Guide to Replacing the NG4 Navidrive 3D Hard Drive with a CF Card
Well done!
Just to note, If it does start resetting again, you may have to get you options back each time using the menu to set up your audio preferences and loudness, equaliser settings etc. but at least with a CF card you have s somewhat operational system, given the price and lack of replacement Hard Drives for these.
