Is there a special reason you want it changed early?

No, but on the other hand if they're still only a day or two ahead I don't want them to slip back and it doesn't happen in time.

Somewhere they say if it gets down to 2 or 3 days then email them.

Could you check online a couple of more times a day to see exactly when it gets updated please? It'll be good to know how they're doing at the DVLA.

I checked the dvla car check for tax and mot stats mines been automatically roll over 6 months

I went ahead and tested my c1. It was due 12th May, but I wanted it done for continuiy of the MOT, and my normal mot man is working but quiet. It passed as expected, and while out picked up service items to keep me occupied (for about 1/2 hour to service a c1)

My mate has just come back from having his car fixed at the local garage and he was chatting to the owner of the business. He was strongly advised to get his car MOT'd as per normal and not to take advantage of the 6 months extension - reason being: 'everybody' will be trying to get an MOT at much the same time later this year and the owner doubted he could cope with the rush along with all the other work that will be expected i.e. people will only think about getting their cars serviced when they start using them all the time again. The owner was going to prioritise those MOT's that were still within their original 12 month validity, and those people who'd taken advantage of the 6 month extension would have to take their chances in the queue.

Fair point, but add in to the mix that a lot of MOT garages are shut at the moment and people will be waiting to use their 'usual' MOT man...... you can guess what will happen when those garages re-open.

The French government have given us 3 months grace on out CT, (MOT), BUT our usual guy is open, we booked it online and I am taking the wife's C4 in the morn. My thinking is that if it needs anything, I can do it while off work.

The government hasn't announced when the six month extension scheme will finish so there's a chance that it will still be in force then and you'll get a six month extension yourself.

The extension runs from March 30th 2020 - March 29th 2021, so it's a straight 12 months, but that doesn't stop plenty of overlap where those that choose to use the 6 months extension clash with those that don't - and that's the bit the garage owner was referring to. At the MOT station I used to use you usually had to book about 2 weeks in advance to get a suitable slot, I can imagine that'll be stretching out a bit later in the year as all those people who made full use of the extension meet those that aren't.
I'm intending to get mine done at 12 months as usual - for the same reason I could drive my car on the red line but I choose not to. I don't mind paying for a 12 month MOT if it means it helps to keep the car in good order.

I looked on the gov.uk web site for a finish date and didn't find one. Can you provide a link for that please?
