Re: Jim, UPDATE
Hi All
I have only just seen and been able to read this thread! Thank you all for your very kind comments I'm surprised any of you even remember me!
Time for an update...
Things went very bad for a long while and only now am I starting to properly recover. It all started well but it seems I may well have brought Covid home from hospital and went down with all the classic symptoms. That, along with a severe reaction to opoid-based pain meds nearly did for me...
I would have been happy to have ended it all there. Covid is bloody horrible.
Happily, thanks to my good base fitness and being generally tough as well as a Citroen owner, I pulled through.
The day before my accident I'd ran a 20 mile race in under three hours and had been running continuously for 80 days and racking up huge cycling mileage so fitness was OK!
Now I'm well on the road to recovery and walking every morning, taking full advantage of government recommendations. I can't quite run yet as the ribs still hurt if I try and running with a neck brace is not a good idea but I can walk
I can also ride my bike on the Turbo Trainer and enjoy virtual rides around London courtesy of a piece of software called Zwift and some nifty electro-mechanical wizardry in the Turbo. It very faithfully replicates thee feel of a real ride...
Than's enough from me, I attach a few pictures to show progress!
Me after a brutal bike ride around London...
My bike mounted on the Turbo...
And London as seen from the bike on Zwift...
The best computer game ever!
All the best all, keep safe and take care!

Welcome back, Jim. While the Forum is doing well, it isn't the same place without you. Keep up with the exercise (as best you can), and get well soon.

Great to feel you know someone when you've never actually spoken, even greater to see you have added beating Covid to your fantastic list of achievements and greatest of all to see you back on the FCF. Keep up the recuperation Jim and stay safe!!

Good to hear you are making good progress with the recovery Jim. A damned shame that you had to endure the downside of it though.
I'm sure you are in good hands with your girls to keep an eye on you.

Not much more that I can add. Nice to hear from you Jim.

Sorry Alasdair! I won't do it again!Stickyfinger wrote: ↑09 Apr 2020, 10:59 Hey Jim.....STOP HIJACKING my thread with your "I'm better now etc etc..."

Thanks all, just enjoyed reading your replies I guess I'm back on the forum now... I must try and catch up on what's been happening...
Another little milestone... Thought I'd better see if Sally was still alive... She's not moved for a few weeks...
She started up instantly and ran like a clock. What a car
Here she is, back in the winter, in one of my special happy places - Salcey Forest - where I helped establish a new parkrun last year
Sadly, neither Sally nor I can visit this magical place but hopefully soon!
