Don't you think that it will need to be drained anyway?
Engine is the 2.0 HDi - where is the cabin heater matrix?

I can only answer the 2nd part of your question.
Along with most manufacturers the first thing installed in a car is the heater matrix, the rest of the car is built around it, so imagine sitting in the car in the rear seats and have nothing in front of you apart from a mass of wires pipes. No dash, no steering wheel, nothing except wires and pipes.
That is where the heater matrix lives

Assuming its a RHD X7 just where your left foot rests when its not using the clutch, about 8 inches to the left of it is where the matrix lives, i am happy to do an A level exam in nuclear fusion before i tackle a heater matrix replacement, and i am as tech brainy as a dead fish :rofl2:

Surely there are pipes that can be accessed from the engine bay.

There are two coolants for the X7 (going to give it a try as the level is way too low so it could be a slow leak from somewhere)

https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/evans-au ... -993778012

what is the difference?

Hmm
"If the engine to be converted is currently filled with a water-based coolant an important part of a good installation is using Evans Prep Fluid."

How can I check?

Seems risky to top up with another coolant so water it is. Battery top-up water compatible?

Assuming that the X7 has similar proper soundproofing as it was aimed as a competitor for the BMW 5 series ( check the indicator action ) then have a look at Sponge like to see how much liquid it can soak up before you notice :)

If it helps that pic is 10 years old from a Xantia but squeeze and squeeze and drip dry for a week but it still is damp to touch :rofl2:

Aldi are currently selling (or were when I was last out two weeks ago) Prestone ready mixed coolant. This will mix with organic and non-organic type anti-freezes.

Removed the air from the circuit and all the coolant disappeared from the tank! Had to add almost 3lt but everything seems to be working now. Will keep an eye for any leaks.

IIRC from reading the MSDS sheet for those Evans products, the 'waterless' coolant actually contains . . . water.
As such, it will almost certainly work quite well as a coolant, as the heat-removing properties of (de-mineralised) water are actually rather good. But 'waterless' ? #-o
