Not checked for indies but guess there will plenty
Oh, I've been thinking of getting Lexia as well, if not right away at least lending it or going by my course mate's and get my SRS module reprogrammed. I really dare to doubt that it still is in the module as I have personally read all data using my Delphi device which shows VIN that's in engine bay. I personally have replaced a sunken BSI on that car lately and our local Citroen forum's admin, who's actually a technical specialist in Citroen dealer mentioned that they have changed it as well in the past. So I really doubt that there's any VIN left in it. Someone mentioned radio contains VIN too but even if it does, mine has a CD radio, which I guess comes from Desire not Forte, which means even if it had it it wouldn't match either.

The VIN stored in the radio has to match the one stored in the BSI otherwise you get an annoying beep from the radio every 5 seconds.

I personally know of two occasions.

First known swap was done by the dealer in 2013, the reason was water damage but the client wasn't interested in removing the cause of a leakage.

As you might already be familiar with it, they tend to drown due to leaky grommet in firewall, clogged drains, etc. And if they don't raise the chance of drowning your BSI, it could always be poor fitment of replaced windshield that could let the water in.

The second time the BSI was replaced by myself in December I guess. The reason was water damage once again.

In my case retrofitted PSA alarm and amplifier cabling were another great ways to let the water in. I personally am not a great fan of aftermarket anything. If something is about to be retrofitted, the quality of installation should be at least the same as it would have been in factory, no less is accepted by me.
