What a fantastic lunchtime, great food, fabulous setting, invigorating walk and a true Northumberland welcome, not to mention a new pack of cards to play patience with at tonights hotel. Thanks again Neil, but now its back on the road across country to see Hadrian's Wall which has always evaded me on my many trips north of the border. Hopefully get a couple of shots on the way to Carlisle.

For the next bit of your trip you will be passing through Bellingham where if you are ready for another cuppa there is a cafe in an old railway carriage at the station. You may not be fortunate enough to spot a pair of bikes like these though like we did back in 2016

When you are going along the Hadrians wall section, for me to get the full experience you need to get out and walk the craggy bit of the wall with the Lough's below, but if its a pic you need from the military road then Sycamore Gap and its Robin Hood filming fame, is the "selfie" shot.

It is a virtual concert, much like your pilgrimage. I have all her concerts on DVD and bootleg performance videos on YouTube

I haven't perused the menu - It is years since I was in a pub, cafe or restaurant. I prefer to avoid them. I usually feel like an imposter and likely to be turfed out.
I was going to go to the Dala café on the quayside in Newcastle, to sample their Semlor. Too late, it has closed (before the C-19 panic).

HADRIAN'S WALL, Northumberland. Walltown Craggs looking west along the wall is my best delve.

Here is a nice bit of the Wall scenery.
You will have passed, an insignificant building on your left Mick, now a B&B but otherwise known as the old Repeater Station. Park round about there walk up to the farm on the top of the hill and keep going West.
Put on a check shirt, and a silly white had and sit on the side of the hill...you will get this sort of image

That sounds good to me Neil, I did pass Bellingham but I don't remember seeing the Old Repeater Station, I'll look out for that on the real run. Further down the route near Haydon Bridge I had a hold up for the passage of local residents:

I'll get up early and get a better picture tomorrow on my way to the lake district. Now I am at:

Day 2 completed without major mishap and charge meter still showing 71% !! Time for supper and a few emails to catch up on and see if SWMBO has found flights home yet, but that doesn't look hopeful! Still I'm comfortable enough:

Pleased you have made it to Carlisle and the Premier Inn.

Bit cheaper option for the "Eddie Stobart" vehicle spotter, there is a retail park/car showroom area called Kingstown Industrial Estate Big ASDA, M&S and the "Stobart Truckstop" motel. Eddies depot is right next door with its fuelling station and loads of stobart trucks.

Its by no means as swish as a Premier Inn.

That repeater station is on the Military Road (B6318) which runs alongside the wall just before Housesteads, and the view in my photo is of Greenlee Lough from Sewingshields.

As you set off on the Lakes element of your meander this is a lovely 15 minute film in technicolor of the ideal vehicle, long before those pseudo off-roaders , and fancy suspension we have today were ever invented.

Possibly a boneshaking ride but the plucky little Morris Austin 8 took it in its stride, accompanied all the way with that sort of clipped english commentary and cheery background music.

Brilliant insight to the days when roads were tracks and cars were beasts!!
Really inspired me as I prepare for today's agenda!!
However the view from the hotel window is not exactly up to Scarborough standards:

The Lake District is an absolute gem, and Derwentwater/Keswick a jewel in the crown. Heres my highlights.

1. Gentle stroll up Latrigg.....you can even drive the car most of the way up leaving a literal gentle stroll to one of the finest viewpoints overlooking Kewsick and Derwent water beautifully framed with the mountains and fells behind.

2. A rowing boat/canoe on Derwentwater

3. Ashness bridge and Surprise view a couple of miles down the Borrowdale road. Another beautiful viewpoint.

and Booth's supermarket is always good for a suupermarket picnic.

If you do brush Cockermouth itself on the way it is one of the less than 20 places in the Country which has a Church with a red clock
