I have just watched the first of the Virtual esports F1 races and I can't honestly say it was that great!!

Well I was closer with the Mazda than the rest although the Austin Victoria from South Africa does have some similarities

AS regards the numbers, thanks everyone for the "likes" that have got me to the very neat position of 1500 for 500!! which I am now spoiling with this post
However onward and upward is the way to go starting with the virtual meander tomorrow, but I think this car needs identifying first...so any more ideas?

Well done Neil, it certainly is, and a very unusual 1500 I thought!! Certainly a model I had never known about until my celebration search turned it up. Apparently a reliable family car based, as you suggested, on the Minx, an example of which is parked behind it in the picture. Here is the undoctored version which shows the model badge and some of the surrounding literature:

I was with the Austin Apache but around that time there were lots of British cars, sort of redesigned, in other parts of the world, Iran was a Hillman partner, India Morris and all the colonials had their own versions of the popular Brit stuff.

And, unusually, a de-restricted 70mph through there, iirc.

Toll booths were considered for it at design stage, but there was nowhere acceptable to place them, as there would need to be 12 of them (6 for each direction, and all at one end) to cope with the traffic volume. Two problems: the acreage they would have taken up in a N.T. area, and the impossibility of putting them at the north end, because of the downward gradient approaching, hazardous for HGVs. So, out-of-character for the times, tolls were written out. There was some suggestion at the time that the large number of government ministers using the tunnel, and much of the A3, had something to do with the generous speed limits (all the way to Hook-Chessington), and the lack of toll. Something not easy to get to the Bottomley of.

I don't know if it's still the case, but it always seemed that if you did an 'agressive' lane change in the Hindhead Tunnel, the speed limit automatically changed to 40mph. Something to do with the accident detection equipment, I think.

Out on our allowable exercise yesterday, I took this pic of our local bridge. It's very difficult to get a decent shot of it due to the deep ravine, and all the flora in the way. It is, however, a splendid Georgian stone bridge - soon to come up for its Bi-centennial - according to Wiki, it is the highest bridge over an inland waterway in Scotland.
