Nah. The camera is correct, it's the room that needs rotating.

Update, got everything back together, took it for a spin to get everything up to temperature, gave it a couple of massages with the right hoof.....No smoke, no fumes in the cab. Plugged the 'puter back in, 2 fault codes.
The same BSI one as before and the preheat fault. I'm classing it as a result.
Checked the parameters for the air circuit and the egr is behaving.
Just one that looked odd, though no fault, was the turbo position. Actual was 100%, requested was 35%. This is at idle.
I can stick a screen print up if it helps.
Any advise on this would be appreciated.
Cheers
Definitely beer o'clock now, but for the right reasons, unlike yesterday.

Cheers, it was most refreshing. Was about to plug the 'puter in to have a drive and look at the turbo position and the 'puter died. Once I've reinstalled everything onto a spare I'll get a screen shot up.

Everything working again. Plugged him in and a read of the parameters.
EGR valve follows the reference value OK.

The turbo however,
Position indicated stays at 100% and the position ref value was around 33%. The van seems to drive OK. This is at idle or 2500rpm. Can't do a road test 'cause the laptop battery is buggered.

EGR throttle,
EGR throttle electrovalve OCR and the position copy are fine at idle but at the restricted 2500 rpms, they show 'invalid' and '1' respectively sometimes.

Not ever having looked at turbos (they've always been hidden down the back and never given me cause for concern) I have absolutely no idea what to look for or check here. I'm presuming the position indicated remaining at 100% is either wrong or wrongly sensed, either way I'd like some advice please.

There's no position sensor on the turbo on these - the repeat comes from the vacuum electrovalve, which is.....buried down the back of the engine :rofl2:

If the boost pressure is OK, I would ignore it.

The EGR throttle is to do with DPF regen, so most of the time is will say invalid, as it is not doing anything.

Thanks Richard, the pressures look fine (requested/expected and actual). It doesn't have a DPF so I'll ignore that as well.
I remember something about that electrovalve, on the Devil Car thread, relating to the filter, but that was giving pressure issues. I suppose this is a downside of having a Diagbox, you see things that aren't necessarily a problem.

Just been to check the water level and it's got a leak on the bottom rad hose. If I hadn't have had to take the egr cooler off I wouldn't have touched that. It's one of those 'push fit with a wire clip' jobbies, nice.

Well that's a blast from the past, the Devil Car thread, not heard from Mike T for a long time but the Devil Car is still taxed and tested :)
If the turbo actuator rod is not set correctly it may be 100% open even if requested is 33% or so.
It has 2 nuts on it from memory if one becomes loose it will allow extra travel when not needed as the first one can unwind. If as in the Devil Car its a 1.6 then i think the actuator rod is easily to see just to the left of the air box looking from the front of the engine bay.

Cheers, if the turbo was actually at 100% what would the symptoms be when driving?
Could someone post a photo of a turbo on a 1.6 16v hdi with relevant parts arrowed please? Like I said, never got involved with turbos before.
Thanks

French MOT passed, how much salt is used in the UK? The underside looks like a 20 year old car! Nice chap, didn't pick up on the arb bushes, front wheels are out of alignment (I did notice it pulling to the right a tad), front right CV gaiter needs replacing, lots of surface rust underneath and the rear brakes aren't even, not too bad really, a weekend with a wire brush and a bit of Simoniz Tough Black and all will be good. Emissions were spot on.
Bought as Rich said 'as a project', so far relatively straight forward one. Got 2 years on it at least :-D

That’s good to hear Pete, the emissions should be spot on after having new injectors etc,I also used Redex diesel system cleaner a dose about once a month. I posted the last few invoices from2018 to your mum’s lat the weekend, so they should be there now. 😀 I experienced the opposite on certain roads, it felt like there was a slight drift to the left, but maybe it’s the roads in the UK have a left hand camber and in Europe they have a right? The left driveshaft end was replaced in 2018:
Cheers Rich

The Redex diesel system treatment seems to contain broadly the same ingredients as the Wynn's, Miller's and 3CV products, so should work just as well. All of these contain naphthalene, a cetane (combustion) improver.

The emissions were indeed very good, I'm allowed 1.49 and got 0.15 and 0.14. Just on the injectors, can anyone tell me what the torques are and how often to check them please?
My mistake on the rh cv, it is the lh one, not had chance to see if it's split or not jubed / clamped correctly. It's going to need a lh rear tyre soon so I'll get the tracking checked at the same time.
I used a different testing place this time 'cause a mate said the chap uses common sense and is an ex mechanic. Yes he does. Didn't fail the rear lens because no white light could escape, advised on the corrosion underneath (the last place would have listed multiple fails). The LH tail light failed part way through the test, but he'd already checked it when it was working and told me to put a new bulb in, as it turns out it needed a bit of contact cleaner and a bend of a prong. Rear high level brake light now works (advisory).
So apart from a wire brushing, checking the lh rear caliper, lh cv boot and getting the tracking done....sorted. Very pleased indeed.
You should have kept it Rich.....glad you didn't though.
