Airbag light: Part no for Xantia for steering column slip ring

Post by vmaxvmax »

Hi,
Does anybody know the correct part number for the slip ring connector in the steering column? My dashboard airbag light is illuminated and resecuring the under-seat connectors didn't solve the issue.

Any other possible areas causing the fault?

It seems that there are two types and they changed over around the time my car was manufactured?

I haven't opened it up yet as I use it daily and would rather open it up and repair in one go...

Details:

Engine Code DHX (XUD9TF/BTF) / D ः (XUD9SE / O)
year: 1996,
- Model type: x18a, TDX ,
- vin: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff],
- My registration is french (so might not be of help): AP-499-VM

ORGA/RP Number:
0 6972 CJ = 11 December 1985 was date of assembly in Factory

Homologation
Version 18A
BE: 93/A095
ES: B-2076

Any help much appreciated! Thank you.

Yours is 4112X6 - allegedly it's still available, although at the rather laughable price of £178!!

This was fitted to all Mk1 cars after RP 6965 that didn't have remote controls for the radio on the wheel. There's s good chance that the one for similar age cars with radio controls (4112X7) will fit, just nothing to connect the radio wires to.

It was also used in:
2 document(s) found for DISPATCH I & II
2 document(s) found for SYNERGIE
1 document(s) found for XANTIA
1 document(s) found for XM II
1 document(s) found for XSARA
1 document(s) found for XSARA PICASSO

And

1 document(s) found for 605
1 document(s) found for 605
2 document(s) found for 806
2 document(s) found for EXPERT 1 & 2

Which increases the chances of finding a 2nd hand one!

Great! Thank you for the quick reply.
No remote on my steering wheel so hopefully no problem.

I found one on eBay Germany for 25€ with part number 9627442480 allegedly for my car. I'll have to see if it cross references with your part number. If so, I'm in luck!

Well that was a waste of time...

I bypassed the connectors under the seats with soldered joints and fitted the replacement slip ring in the steering column. Great I thought. The dash seatbelt light is still on.

It only leaves the seatbelt control unit (ECU?) - Parts catalogue/numbers seem impossible to find on the internet.

Anybody know the part number - or point me to a parts inventory?

Thank you in advance...

I would suggest that you get the fault code read with a Lexia. It is not unknown for a used slip ring ribbon to be faulty on arrival, or be damaged in fitting.

Thank you for the helpful replies.

I think I shall have to visit the local Citroen centre. I am not sure if the diagnostic computer will be able to find the problem on my old car. Does Lexia work on a '96 Xantia?

I was reluctant because, here in France, even the most simple service from a dealer tends to be expensive... But I guess may be cheaper and more efficient in the long run.

I tried signing up for the free service.citroen site but it does not allow for individuals and to register as a business, it demands a siret number which all French businesses have. Being retired I don't....

Thanks again.

Yes, the Lexia system should manage an early Xantia.

Diagbox / Lexia will read it, but they need to have the 30 pin adaptor. Note that most of the clones have incorrectly wired 30 pin adaptors that do not work one early cars....

Does it have a passenger airbag, with a switch? Try squirting some contact cleaner down it and giving it a few turns on and off, these sometimes play up.

Again, Thank you all for your helpful replies!

My Xantia does not have a passenger airbag.

I suspect the airbag ECU as I have soldered the cables to bypass the underseat connectors and replaced the steering wheel slip ring (carefully!).

My old one was OK because I get continuity between the connectors so no breaks in the ribbon cables... Perhaps reinforcing the idea that the airbag ECU or it connections may be faulty.

Haynes doesn't mention it so I'm not sure where it is located...

Oh well, off to the dealer...

It is probably in the space near to the gear lever. You want a safety controller to be as far from a point of impact as possible, to allow it sufficient time to operate.

Looks right, James, Service.citroen shows it as under the centre console. Allegedly it's still available, but it does cost 330GBP!! Same controller used on MK2 Xantia, so it may well be possible to get a 2nd hand one. Currently a NOS one on UK ebay: Air bag controller at a more reasonable £100. Or quite a few 2nd hand ones at around £20. At that price, I would be tempted just to get one and stick it in, cheaper than a diagnostic!!

Thank you for the help!

Having looked, I find the part numbers somewhat confusing for the airbag ECU.

Eg. mine has; 550 40 25 00, 9622585780 for X1 on the yellow label but also has a white lace with barcode and 06/12/95 + 5E GA6A 0008003 D * L5.

There are many used controllers on eBay etc that all look the same but have different sets of numbers on the yellow label... Mostly for X2.

Are these universal or model specific?

Diagnostic booked this pm at Citroen dealer...

Thank you again...

Xantia mk1 Airbag ECU/Control unit

Post by vmaxvmax »

I was posting on a different thread whilst trying to locate my airbag warning light fault.

My airbag system was scanned by a citroen dealer and the the airbag ECU/control unit is faulty. Citroen tell me that these units are no longer made for this car.

I am ignorant when it comes to the Xantia's electronic control systems.

There are many used ECU's for Xantia's on eBay with differing numbers etc.

Are these ECU's model specific and do the need coding? Can I just fit a tested module in place of the faulty one?

My original thread with a photo of my existing ECU and car details is here: viewtopic.php?p=636186#p636186

Thank you in advance...
