Check the air filter.
If it is anything like the C5 the induction inlet is low down in the wheel well, behind the arch liner.
I managed to suck in a load of water and gravel from flooded road gutters and soaked the filter, filled the filter housing and killed the MAF.

Just completed that little job thanks for your advice, I was very lucky I just had about an egg cup full of water the air filter is bone dry I've been out this morning it started and drove really well , I kinda think that if the air intake was below the water level it starved the engine of air it did fill as if it was being starved of air and yes thinking now that would make it drink more fuel as the maf would tell the ecu there's something not right ?? Maybe .. That's my theory .. But today it felt more balanced .

REPLACING REAR WIPER MOTOR.

By now you should be aware of my weird rear wiper problem. It seems this is common on this and if not other cars .
Symptoms are.
Working on its own
Working when unlocking the car
Working if the wiper arm is touched
Working when put in reverse
And erratic intermittent wiping
And so on.
Today my replacement motor kit arrived two days early and very pleased I was too.
I had to drill out the original factory fitted rivets

Then squeezing my banana hands in the boot door paneling ( tight but doable) to place the bolt in place I ended up finally managing to get all three on and nipped up.

As the last photo shows .. My problem was the white plastic part that the loom plugs into , it was hardly connected to the motor at all , so a sudden spike of electrical pulse through the looms made the motor do weird stuff , which I tested by wiggling the part and hey presto it powered up with no stalk switch on , when it goes to earth it powers up
I'm not saying this is a total fault find and fix but my theory was seen to be right when I tested the old motor by giving it the same situations it was in and it did the same and that was acting weird !!!!

When you see how simple this white plastic power connection just sits with the metal pins just touching where it should be pushed into its worrying to think that it could catch fire ,
The replacement part is much better and the socket is tighter, I will at some point check this and maybe wrap some black electrical insulation tape round it for that extra little piece of mind.

I hope this post and pics help someone .

I find mine a real pain.
Disconnect all the hoses - push the coloured clip in and pull - carefully, some have a tight grip.
The retaining ring can also be very tight. I use oil filter pliers to remove and replace mine.

I hate doing it and the new fuel filter is still in the boot after the last service I did, back in August.
Filter is always clean anyway  Car not long before recycling as bean tins too.

Std DW10TD engine.... the only difference is the forward oil filler to accommodate the fact that the engine is buried under the scuttle. You will see that the original one on the rocker cover is still there...! That's a Siemens filter, but the engine may be fitted with Bosch (in tank pump) or Siemens (no in pump) injection.

That makes sence about pump postion as there is a noise from the back when switching ignition on ( my xsara 1.4i made same noise but was a petrol) , it ticks over nice and is pretty smooth , and no smoke too which is a bonus

Actually, they all appear to be Bosch injected.... some of the Xsara 'cars' got Siemens injection.

I had a similar issue on my previous C5 estate. It turned out the contacts and blades on the relevant fuse (and holder) had got dirty. Plugging/unplugging the fuse a few times (with a quick spray of a real contact cleaner) sorted the rear wiper out.

I'll have a go at that when the weather gets better and if i pulled the correct fuse out earlier lower left small fuse 15amp it was a brown dirty colour so I'll give the whole board a check over when its better weather and clean what's needed.

I know the loom from car to boot is ok, and it was working normal after I'd replaced the old one which has no good , but today it stopped , the relay still clicks on and off but the motor ain't doing what it should be doing .
Think I'll also pop the boot cover off and check the contact plate to the motor aswell.

Always something with a car.
