C3 Picasso Dipped Beams Failed

Post by jimopg »

I have a 2011 C3 Picasso 1.6 HDI
2 weeks ago the far side dipped beam headlight failed. I checked the bulb and fuse and they are both are OK. Today the other dipped beam headlight has also failed.(fuse and bulb OK) Both side lights and headlights are working OK.
I think the problem may be in the fuse box ??
However I have checked the connectors inside the fuse box and they are dry.(no water getting in)

This is my first post and I hope you can help me point to the likely caiuse of the problem.

Thanks

Welcome!

Are you completely sure the bulbs are OK? Don't know the configuration of this car, but can you swap in the main beam bulbs to test? After that you will need a volt meter to test whether you have power at the bulbs and at the fuse box.

Thnks for gettting back to me .
The VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].
A friend used a volt meter and we had only around 8V at the actual bulb holder.

There are separate fuses for both the left and right hand dipped beam headlamps in the Engine Fusebox:

F17 - Left Dipped Beam
F18 - Right Dipped Beam

Maxi Fuses MF4 & MF5 seem to be responsible for the supply to the Engine Fusebox. It may be worth having a look around there for signs of trouble. But do double check the bulbs, as often when one goes the other soon follows.

I`ve just had the exact same problem. Look in the engine bay fusebox and, after disconnecting the battery, remove the 3 plugs from the fusebox. If the centre one has had water ingress you will have to replace the fusebox as the pins on the fusebox will have corroded off the `box!! Its a fiddly but easy job. Allow about 2 hours if you are inexperienced to do the job. There`s another row of high current fuses underneath the `box so be careful!!
Ive got my head/side lights working again. The fusebox was £50 off eBay. so a nice cheap job.

Hi Triumph.

I have few questions for you. I have exactly same problem as above. So here are the questions.
1. I could find on ebay 2 "kinds" of fuseboxes. One with bottom bit (high current fuses) and without bottom bit. Which "type" you changed?
2. What about connector. Unfortunately i have 3 pins stuck in and I cant get them out. So i think my only option is, get from scrap yard exactly same connector and then cut that one off (with stuck pins in) and solder new one and cure it with some heat shrink.
3. Then what about coding? You done it by your self or you asked someone? If by your self, how?

Hopefully you will be able to answer my questions. Thank you very much.

If replacing the engine fusebox, make sure you replace it with the same part number. These are not all the same.
