Max. weight for back axle on C5 estate.

Post by Forrester123 »

I have just bought a 57 C5 estate & am going on a wine shopping trip to France next week.
There will be only two in the front, so all of the wine boxes will be over the rear axle.
A wine box weighs about 3 kilos, so how many can I get in without overloading?

3 kilos per box? Must be chateau cardboard...

If your car has hydraulic suspension, you can load it until (nearly) the pump won't lift it, I would imagine that it should be good for at least 300 kilos without back seat passengers.

Cardboard indeed!
Have just weighed a couple of bottles here:
1.1kg per bottle wine
1.6kg per bottle bubbly

Hydraulic Citroens were built to be 'loaded to the roof' with wine, cheese and the odd baguette.
Driver's handbook will list max carrying weight.

Single driver it is about 500kg I think, I don't thing Chatue Neuf DoBurb will overload it or be noticeable if hydraulic.

PSA are definitely slipping. In the old days, those loading figures would have been given in useful units - like bottles, cheeses, eggs, and the odd goat.
