Peugeot 407 Display Repair or Replacement
Me again
My central display is faulty, starting off fairly legible when firing up the car, then gradually fading out to almost nothing by the end of the journey. I understand that this is a fairly common problem. Is the best solution simply to replace the screen with a genuine OEM unit for around £150 or so?

Re: Peugeot 407 Display Repair or Replacement
You'll need part number: 9821852480 for your 407, currently retailing at Peugeot for £319.50 inc. VAT. for reference.
So if searching for a new one, make sure it has this part number and a word of caution, ALWAYS either disconnect the battery following the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure or remove the power connector from the RD4 head unit first and reconnect last. Not doing so can cause electrical surges to the display screen and fry it.

Is it at all temperature dependant? i.e., does it take longer to disappear when the weather's cold? Or maybe the converse?

Re: Peugeot 407 Display Repair or Replacement
Yours will be the old Borg unit (white plastic) If you find one in a tat yard off a same spec 407 make sure it is a Johnson Controls (black plastic). The socket is on the other side which makes the cabling a bit tight. It's a common problem with the Borg units, especially over here where it's warmer. The telephone option, if you have it, is in the mfd as well as the car so make sure the donor car is the same as yours.

He doesn't have the telephone option - it's an RD4 not an RD45 Pete, to avoid any potential confusion.

Re: Peugeot 407 Display Repair or Replacement
If I had to guess, I'd say it's probably temperature dependent as it gets progressively worse the longer it's powered on for. I've only had the car a few weeks, however, so I've only run it in cool/cold weather.

Re: Peugeot 407 Display Repair or Replacement
I was thinking I'd probably go for a new unit to avoid getting one that ends up deteriorating in the same way, unless the 'Johnson Control' unit is more robust.moizeau wrote: ↑21 Jan 2020, 10:10 Yours will be the old Borg unit (white plastic) If you find one in a tat yard off a same spec 407 make sure it is a Johnson Controls (black plastic). The Johnson Controls unit is more robust. Beware, there are a lot Chinese items out there. They do work but have a different display colour and limited menu options.

Re: Peugeot 407 Display Repair or Replacement
Hi ! this happened to me just yesterday. But it was my mistake, i've turned on the "auto brightness" option on the radio menu. After deactivating this function, my display is bright as before.

Re: Peugeot 407 Display Repair or Replacement
This is a different issue David. The old screens (Borg) begin to breakdown over time, they work initially then as they get warmer the screen becomes pixellated and unreadable, it gets worse the warmer it gets.
