How to remove the undercover - c5 x7

Unread post by atr »

Hi
I've managed to remove the battery tray and now I have access to the gearbox, but before opening the cover, I have to drain the fluid in the gearbox. as you well know - the draining plug located at the bottom of the gearbox and in order to reach it, the undercover needs to be removed. from crawling under the vehicle, it seems to be quite a large piece. I want to avoid dismantling unnecessary parts, so I'm asking for your help to find a guide (if exists) that describes this procedure or if any of the members has done it and willing to share his experience.
btw - I've found nothing on Youtube.
Thanx.

Avi - I've put a guide up on the 'How To' section for the Draining & Refilling the AL4 Gearbox:

There are usually some fittings missing, mainly the turn buckles. You can get a new set of from Ebay for not much money.

Hi, I tried to open the link but have no access. Can someone describe how to put the undercover in place?

It's better to use m6X20 bolts with a ringplate, because when mounting the undercover, the only thing to do is just push the bolts inplace the same way as the originals.

Kees.

Alright, but I found it hard to put the cover in place. Is there a video/description? Do you push it back or forward first?

Forward first, then lift the back and slide backwards.
Even you new fixings will shake out eventually, I used plasterboard rawlpugs and big self tappers.

Thanks! That means forward to the front of the car and then lift and push the shield above the plastic backwards?

🤔
The rear end of the cover sits on top of the front subframe rear Cross member.
