C5 Brakes

HI folks
Just a quick one..
My garage has replaced a front Caliper, and since then the brakes feel different.
They work OK with gradual take up as usual, but I notice that having stopped the car and keeping my foot on the pedal it goes right to the floor.
I would think this is air in the system but the garage say no.
So.. should the pedal go to the floor or not??

Pop your VIN up first so we know exactly what you have.

There is a primary and secondary braking circuit and the secondary circuit needs the a diagnostic tool like Lexia to bleed the system correctly (under the ABS / ESP system menu in Lexia).

If your garage doesn't know this then that's worrying. If you don't have a Lexia yourself, you may be better off getting a dealer to bleed it properly and avoid mickey mouse outfits in future. Looks like they have allowed air in the system / or the seals in the master cylinder have inverted....

Thanks, The garage has been ok for several years, but only bled the one new caliper on my request

There's no such thing as bleeding one caliper - if the system has been opened, then air will have entered the braking system and it has to be properly bled for safety reasons alone.

Ok, so this is a MK I C5. What are your intentions? I can put a bleeding procedure up here - but you will still need somebody with a Lexia to bleed the secondary circuit - you have ABS with ESP on this vehicle, so won't help if you are not doing this yourself. Let me know anyway.

That's great thanks-- I can make sure the garage follow the procedure. I thought it was just a Citroen thing.
