Magazines in the barbers when I was a boy.....little bookshop in Berwick has loads of these on its shelves...took me back to getting a short back and sides, and being faced with the choice of Brylcream or spray at the end of the performance :-D

Light programme I think, 18.45 in the '40s and '50s. Replaced if I remember correctly by 'Journey in to space'

Well if you have an hour to spare Peter, not the radio prog but the full 1948 film

If you have 2 miniutes to spare....just the theme tune!

The Devils Gallop performed by Charles Williams and his concert orchestra and composed by Charles Williams

I didn't know there was a film Neil, you learn something every day. I don't think we could afford to go to the pictures. No, I lie, we saw the Wizard of Oz.

Went for the 2019 barber experience yesterday at the "Shearing Shack". Being a teenager in the 1970's my natural state has always tended towards long hair, accompanied more recently with a full set of an increasing percentage of grey, and both getting a bit out of hand.

Have to say, in stark contrast to my deposit put in Room 101 of "licence to print money jobs and services", the whole "Shearing Shack" experience was excellent and top value for money.

When he had finished, the young man who had removed 95% of my hair with the number 3, said "£7,00 please". I had £10 in my hand and just gave it to him.........then I spotted what the £7.00 was on the charge list.........

An OAP cut be blowed :!: :!: :-D

Sorry I am still 19 in my own mind.......happy to pay more than the going rate for good service :-D

Maybe a Peaky Blinders haircut would do you Neil.

Didnt ask for a Peaky blinder's cut Gibbo but thats pretty much how it turned out. I've accidentally become fashionable :-D

Anyone got any barbers shop/haircut memories recent or from some time ago to share?

I do remember barber Den Field from my early teens. He had a barber's shop in the warren of poor and old terrace houses known as The Grove, just off Ealing Broadway's High Street. Many of my school chums used to go there in our first few years of secondary school.

Den's premises were something of an education for us youngsters - shelves full of things for the weekend, and a magazine collection (Reveille, Tit-Bits...) to ogle. Den was in his thirties, I guess, and worked on his own. Short-back-and-sides was definitely the default, but by 1962 he had clocked that not everyone wanted that.

Much later, around 1964, I discovered the Grove was actually Ealing's red light district, shortly after a school friend of mine was "invited upstairs" by the daughter of someone he was delivering a note to. I met the young lady once (in Walpole Park) and she definitely had a future opening up for her.

Don't expect anything great Peter if this review on IMDB is accurate :-D
However the film is let down by a silly plot awful acting and almost invisible production values. It is probably one of the worst British films that i have ever seen.I haven't yet watched the other 2 in the series but they have to be an improvement on this load of tripe.
