You are certainly not a robot, but those at Honda might be, judging by that reply! :?

I've just caught up with this thread and I have to say that Honda E looks worrying to me!! They have obviously solved the energy crisis with a motor which only produces 4 NM of torque but can get you to 15 times its maximum speed in 3.2 seconds. The only machine that has ever come close to that sort of performance was called a Tardis I believe!! Never mind because the noise level will kill you long before you are anywhere near the top speed!! :-D
It is also clear that the Honda customer service group only read Japanese and have a programmed auto answer and refer the query elsewhere!! :-D
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

The real reason many legacy auto makers are deliberately dragging their heels on producing affordable, compelling EV's:

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/indu ... r-industry

We knew this all along of course but it's amusing to see it outright stated by someone like PSA. Car companies (and dealer networks) make a lot of their money in after sales service and repair. Doing things like tyre rotations, oil and filter changes etc for those who run new cars and don't DIY is easy money for dealers, and replacement parts is a profitable revenue stream for the manufacturer. Take away that guaranteed revenue stream and they're relying much more on up front sticker price to make their profit, which is a lot harder.

On the one hand its easy to be sympathetic to car companies and those in the trade (especially independents) who make their livelihood fixing and maintaining peoples cars, on the other hand, wouldn't you as the owner and driver of a car prefer a car that simply requires a lot less maintenance and repair ?

I'm slightly torn because on the one hand I do enjoy the challenge of repairing and maintaining a car to keep up my mechanical and electrical skills, on the other hand as a busy parent that doesn't have as much time or inclination these days to get greasy there is something to be said for a low maintenance car where I don't have to do oil changes, replace exhausts, spark plugs, filters and all these other ICE specific items!

Of course there are still things like brakes, suspension and other drivetrain items that will wear out or break and need replacing or fixing, so it's not as if an EV needs no maintenance or repair at all.

“We’ve got a short-term opportunity for aftersales where hopefully we can build loyalty and prove ourselves and break some of the myths about being ripped off by mainstream manufacturers.”

according to PSA Group electric and connected boss Helen Lees.
Hope she delivered that punchline with a straight face :-D

There is also a long load of waffle about the huge battery factories being built in Västerås and Skellefteå, a joint operation with VW

Quite a lot of column inches consumed on that in the US "Car and Driver"....not everyone entirely happy at the "Mustang" name being clagged on an electric SUV/ "crossover" or whatever you call it.

and in the car news today

New Skoda Citigo-e iV to cost from £16,955 in UK
Skoda's first electric car due to go on sale in December with 164-mile range and 81bhp motor
