Lexia Diagbox Queries

Post by Ramc4 »

So I got diagbox 7.58 installed after a few tries. I actually tested it out on my PC first which has windows 7 64bit, and it all installed, again after a variety of errors. I thought I didn't work on 64bit OS's?

So my final question before I try and program these keys is, do I have to upgrade the firmware on the lecxia box, I believe I need firmware 4.3.2 for v7.58?

1) No, it won't work for your vehicle. I've written about it all over the Diagnostic thread multiple times, so I'm not going to go into detail here again. Essentially, your vehicle will use the Lexia software component because of its age. Lexia was written in 16 bit code. A 64 bit OS will not natively support 16 bit code applications. Diagbox is fine and that is what has opened up on your PC. If you install this on a laptop with a 64 bit OS, Lexia will not be able to launch when it detects your vehicle - simple as that.

2) Firmware - no leave it alone - it auto upgrades the firmware as part of the update process as needed. If you have gone from 7.02 to 7.58 then that is all you need to do.

Any thoughts on this piece of kit, it says full chip.

That’s not a full chip, if that’s a picture of the kit. Obvious to me it is missing half the components. If the price is too cheap then it probably isn’t the full ticket.

Anything less than £100 is suspect to be honest.

I have to agree with Marc. That price definitely seems too good to be true.

Because all the Optocouplers bar one are missing! I've highlighted the area in yellow where the chips are missing.
Opto.PNG
All these are cloned units of the original - but they are not all made equal and the cheaper ones invariably don't have all the components so don't work or can't read the ECUs of some full CAN vehicles.

It can be a bit of a minefield, as a lot of these are resellers of clones and don't really know what they are selling. Get one from a diagnostics dealer or one that states specifically that it works with the C5 / 308 as some indication. Your choice of course. UK suppliers are likely to offer a decent 12 month warranty and telephone support if you need it. You pay a bit more but have better piece of mind and are covered by distance selling regs and better consumer protections than you are buying from Asian market places such as you pointed to.

There is a discount available for FCF members from one UK supplier - we are not affiliated in any way, but your choice - I can only advise on what kits look dodgy from your links and my experience.

I'm splitting this topic and moving the relevant parts to the diagnostics section as this is moving away from your original issue.

But that photo isn't included in the description of the reader in the link. I don't think that we can make the assumption that it will be like the photo you've posted.

Yes it was Paul - I'm not making the assumption - I've looked at the photo supplied. It is the other way round (picture from seller site) and if you have the correct editing tools and zoom you can see they are missing.... I wouldn’t just post that without looking at the picture very closely!

They weren’t deleted, they were moved into their own topic as it was a separate issue regarding key fobs.

You should have had an email notification with the link when I created the new topic which is here:

Well I've been up and down the advert posted in the link and I can't see a photo of that side of that board. I remain confused on this one.

That's because the picture I posted is a stock photo I have of the same problem I'm forever talking about on these threads and posted it up to show just one example of the missing parts that do not appear to be in the photo of the board on the sellers link.

I already examined the seller's photo, magnified it up and concluded that the Optocoupler chips are missing. I don't always have the time to go into the 'nth' degree on everything, but as you are obviously curious, here is the seller's photo, cropped rotated to align with my picture and I have marked in yellow dots the missing Optocouplers and with red dots the 2 that in place also as per my other photo - typical of a cheaper clone.

You may not be able to zoom this up more as it has already been zoomed when I edited it.

I thought that the photos were of the two opposite sides of the board? Is that not the case?
