Could a blocked DPF cause sudden breakdown and throw up EGR codes ?

These are separate issues.

A dpf may be blocked for several reasons - physically blocked because it is end of life due to unburnt Cerine from the additive over the years - this stuff never burns so needs cleaning out or the DPF replacing.

It can also become blocked because regeneration isn't functioning and therefore the soot is not being burnt off. You'll need to fond why it's not regenerating (fault codes will provide all these pointers).

It can be because one or more of the pressure sensors are faulty.

The EGR is separate and can become clogged or inoperative due to an electrical or vacuum issue depending on type of system fitted.

A blocked DPF will throw a warning on the dash (risk of particle filter clogging) or similar. That is the time to investigate, but if ignored then inevitably the vehicle will become inoperable due to the blockage. Again, I can't help as this is a SCUDO and you'll need to get the faults diagnosed with appropriate diagnostic for this vehicle I suspect for a better diagnosis.

Once again thank you Marc not even sure it has a dpf. Tbh but clutching at straws.

Just spent an hour trundling up and down the road turning off then restarting numerous times. No faults generating on my "launch" reader. Then sat in the drive testing EGR readings. Then sat watching readings with foot hard down reving at 2500. Egr 0% but valve reading 0.1% actual, then the engine note became more strained with some knock and actual Egr was creeping up over1% open . Then battery on tablet died ..... new (cheap) EGR fitted.

Code just read as P0402 gas recycle to exhaust

Generally speaking and on the Bosch Injection System, P0402 relates to Air System Fault - measured quantity of air is lower than the setting.

Specifically, that means there is a positive gap of 10 seconds between the theoretical and calculated air flow where engine speed is between 750 and 2750 RPM.

The fault code will disappear when the car is driven for 5 minutes remaining below engine speed of 3000 RPM.

Whilst this fault is active, the following downgrade modes are in effect:
  • Deactivation of diagnosis of coherence on the flowmeter
  • Cutting of the EGR butterfly (turbo air cooler), EGR valve and bypass butterfly (inlet air heater) in all operating modes
  • Cutting of the "exhaust heat recovery" function
  • Limitation of engine torque
  • Cutting of cruise control
Possible suspects:
  • Exhaust gas recycling valve
  • Air leak between the air flow sensor and the compressor
  • Obstacle hindering the passage of the air
  • Air flow sensor information incorrect
  • Vacuum problem
  • Variable geometry of the turbocharger jammed in the "minimum turbo" position
  • Principal air meter
  • Air flow meter
  • turbocharger
  • Variable geometry of the turbo + vacuum circuit
  • Turbocharging pressure sensor
  • Clogged air filter
Now this may not be specifically for your engine, but this relates to the 1.6 HDi 90 (DV6UTED4) engine used on one variant of the 2010 Dispatch III in case it helps.

On inspection today it seems the turbo has now seized , it was spinning last week I'm sure , but I'd say it's at the root of most of my problems now :(

Sorry to hear that - could be down to oil starvation. Some of the 1.6 Ford PSA engines suffer from blocked oil channels that can carbonise and cause blockages. Very frequent oil changes are recommended to keep the oil clean and remove deposits on these.
