My first few cars had starting handles but just before we moved here we had an Austin A60 diesel which had a handle - how would you go about turning that over?

I have had at least one car with a starting handle and have used it.
I don't remember which but think it could have been the GS.
Otherwise, Renault 4 or Hillman Minx.

I had a couple of early Minx's they had handles as did my first car a '39 Ford Prefect, but it seems that the Farina range still had them until possibly the '60s.

Brings back memories.

The 2CV/Dyane starting handle was the wheelbrace, but why stop at 2 uses? It would fit the wheel trim bolt on the ones with chrome centres, and the bolts that held the front wings on.

Hillman Imp had a starting handle, and before imaginations run away, no it wasn't very very very (very very etc) long, the hole was in the back bumper. Brother in law had one and I did a few jobs on it. One of the worst cars to access any of the cooling system, I think they hung the thermostat up on the assembly line and built the whole car around it.

One kid in my class at school, in the 6th form, was allowed to use his Dad's Austin Westminster 105 (not the boxy Farina one). That had a starting handle, but one night when he left the lights on we quickly realised there was no way 2 lightweight schoolboys could turn a 2.6 litre straigth six ....

Well after much deliberation although there is no absolute proof, I sort of think that this from UAZ could well be started with a starting handle if you poked it through the hole outlined!

Even Better the "breadvan" from UAZ has the "London undgerground logo" shaped starter handle hole!

Had a couple of Imps but don't recall a starting handle. The starter on one packed up so used to park it on a hill to be able to roll it away to bump start it until I got the starter replaced.

Just got back from babysitting and I see that you have not got total proof yet. I had a browse on the phone while out and came up with the Hindustan Ambassador as a potential contender for last starting handle car, so is it the Uaz or the Hindustan? Answers on a postcard please!! :-D

I always said Beetles were powered by overgrown lawn mower engines and this device tends to support that claim :-D Seriously dangerous in amateur hands I would suggest!! :)
