So you have to remember the Rentokil, as well as the Waxoyl.

On the subject of the Morris Oxford MO I have just discovered a series of films entitled Classic British Cars with John Peel as narrator. Lovely stuff. If you have time I would recommend the section of this one that tells the story of the Jack Delahoy with the Morris Oxford MO and his annual continental camping trips with his wife, the picnic box and DIY kettle for the obligatory cups of tea. Heartwarming stuff!

The bit on the Morris MO starts around 3.52. and Jacks little story at 4.05
"Toilets are on the continent are as you know are very difficult so we were self-contained......"

Brightwells catalogue for their 27th November Sale at Leominster
I reckon there is a pretty good selection-have a peruse and make your choice. There's even a nice Rolls Royce for Gibbo!

Theres at least 3 interesting choices for the Peugeot fan, probably the same for the Citroen fan, and probably the same for the Renault fan, and if you want a Packard Eight theres one there too (edit...oops :!: misread that as Panhard so not French at all). French car forum catered for :-D

Give it a go

Sorry Neil but you can't choose that in this thread - its over budget!! For me the Australian Chrysler Superior looks fun!! :-D If I can go over budget then it would be many options but the Renault GTA looks nice!! :)

Some splendid stuff there, Neil.
I would plump for that Range Rover too. The early ones were a tad spartan, but easily sorted, and have the advantage of being mechanically simple - and that lovely V8!
The 1936 Rover 12 opentop interesting too; essentially the same engine and car as my 1935 Rover Ten Sports Saloon.
The Bentley Turbo R at £3k+ tempting, but with its 6.75L Auto, the fuel bill would be unthinkable.

I'd go for the Ford Sierra Ghia myself if I was in the market for a classic, they were damned good cars in the Ghia form.

In terms of exclusivity, there's surely little to choose between them and having driven neither; its perhaps not the most 'informed' of opinions, but the XM looks like an awful lof of car for a fraction of the price against the CX

I can imagine surviving numbers perhaps being similar as I believe (may be mistaken) that the XM never sold in big numbers and less will have succumbed to the dreaded tin-worm... though how many have succumbed to electronic issues will no doubt be another matter.

Perhaps confusingly....

...I think I've already posted many moons ago that my ideal 'impractical classic' would an Imp; but a CX in Estate form would run it a very close second; I fear I'd choose the latter given a wallet full of wonga and the two very different beasts side by side on a forecourt at the same price. I salivated at the sight of this at the Festival of the Unexceptional, fabulous day it was too ! Spirit of the show for me though was a beige Austin Ambassador in 'well used' condition

Oooh, tough choice.....

From the Pugs & Citroens its gotta be the 504, https://www.brightwells.com/lot-details/100012045 even though the photos appear to have been taken by an Imbecile

with the 205 XAD Van tickling my fancy too.

Also very much up my strata are the Lancia Beta Berlina, Alfasud, Commer Camper, Deux Chevaux and
Granny Ghia Estate. Funny how Fords 'age' so well.

Talking of which, has everyone seen the Ford Ranger / 4WD Pick Up thing with Richard Hammond; brilliant marketing. Product, definitely not my thing; but full marks to the marketing men.

Well the Isis is bigger but I think only the Leafs, Alvises & V8 Pilots were available from the manufacturer, all the others were conversions, even if coachbuilt.

Can't believe how long this appeared after the post to which it was a response. :(

Anyone fancy an Avantime?

There's me saying earlier on tonight on another thread that I couldn't recall any Xantia's coming up for sale at the classic auctions and lo and behold this one is up for sale at Mathewsons North Yorkshire on 14th December 2019

In a word Yes, I'd love one! I took a liking to it when Top Gear did their best to improve its lap time round their circuit and couldn't really improve it in any sensible way. However it irritates me that Mercedes are charging £30 for a catalogue which you need to view the car let alone bid on it, and I have to accept that a 3.0 litre V6 isn't really the way to go at this point in time. Nevertheless I am more likely to be allowed to run it further into the future than my HDi and it does have over 60k miles less than the C5, so not entirely out of the question. Also it is being offered with no reserve and could be a snip if there are no collectors at the sale, which is unlikely considering the rest of the catalogue!! a good think is required I fear!! 8-[ 8-[ :)
