Remember these.? All our yesterdays

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

Remember these.? All our yesterdays.......That site is so on topic :-D Never thought about Quink for years!

For the booze lover there are 4 different varieties of Harveys sherry, and Pimms cups No1, No2, No3, and No4

No doubt when playing "dinner parties" you would have to make sure you served the appropriate drink to avoid an embarassing faux-pas :-D You could also play "a quiet drink in the snug of the pickled Egg" with a double diamond and a mackeson!

Regards Neil

Pasha cigarettes and other Turkish brands were not popular and only came about because there was a shortage at the time of Virginia tobacco.

I can't remember the others, was Double Ace in there somewhere?

My ex-wife's father was a publican in an Ind Coope pub so I had more than my fair share of Double Diamond but I actually preferred Watney's Red Barrel until they changed the formula, renamed it Watney's Red and the new Watney's shandy was born. You made that with half a pint of bitter or mild mixed with half a pint of Watney's Red. :-D
Mackeson was mum's tipple with her Bachelors and the ex wife drowned the sorrows ( she was engaged to me) with Babycham in silly glasses which I still have! :)

I saw Quink on sale within the last few years, don't recall where but Amazon, among others, have it.

Sniffs, Rymans, any stationers or pen shop - with the demise of Stevenson's, it's the only remotely affordable ink, albeit in a much reduced range of colours, e.g. no more blue-black, violet, turquoise or probably green.

Mick has found Barry Cade :-D

https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... 50#p625250

As trailed previously here he is a fictional character who used to "front" the regular "Trade Tricks" section of Car Mechanics Magazine with "Barry Cade's Garage Casebook".

The column was initially written by Jonathan Wood, and the "avatar" of Barry his fictional self was loosely based on Jonathan. Jonathan has a catalogue of award winning impeccably researched motoring books, some of which are mentioned in this article. I think he hails from Ludlow these days.

This is how the British Motor Corporation used to do their testing.

Interesting video thanks Neil. I was amused to remember everyone did everything in a shirt and tie, also basically impressed with the apparent quality standard of the engines, pity they didn't keep it up!! However the test was unrealistic in that by running the cars from 5.30am to late in the evening 6 days a week it meant that a) the cars only went through one fully cooled and reheated cycle a week, and b) no allowance was made for time induced metal fatigue. However good to know that they did their best with engineering knowledge as it was at the time!! :)

Peter mentioned this elsewhere on the forum
Peter.N. wrote: 09 Nov 2019, 12:19 How would they manage with a starting handle?
Peter
Well I can just about remember the starting handle, but it did survive for some time even up into the 1990's allegedly, and which car was the final one to be provided with a starting handle?

As you ponder that, should we need reminding here's something from youtube to stir the memories

As an off the cuff answer would that be the FCF's favourite small car? :)
